Worthless things. I wonder if we had an inventory of everything we looked at today whether it was online or in our non-digital world … how much of our vision was held captive by worthless things? Oh I know you’re thinking about pornography or the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition (which is pornography, in case you haven’t figured that out) or some other lust-fueled imagery. Yes, those are worthless things from which we need to turn our eyes. But there’s more. What things are you looking at that make your blood boil? I suppose this could be about all social media, but Facebook seems to take up most of our time on the computer these days (and for the foreseeable future?). Scripture does not tell us at what times of Mary’s life these things would be brought to mind but no doubt there were lonely times when she needed reassurance.
If there ever was a time when the world needs Christmas, it is now.
I can think of many reasons why James Bond appeals to moviegoers. Each film features his unequaled skills as one of Britain’s greatest spies. He has unusual weapons, often disguised in creative ways. He breaks the rules but still gets the job done. There is always humor, much of it subtle, sometimes cheesy.
