"back in the days when they still have brush-arbor meetings outside of town."

We still do that, and we still baptize in the river at camp meetings. We still have tent revival meetings also.

Your post thrills my heart. I love tent revivals; and I was baptized in Febuary in the icy cold waters of the lake.

WOWSA!  That is some imagination you have there.  Anyone who thinks Billy Graham is a Catholic spy...

And Katherine Kuhlman?  NO SHE DID NOT   >>>>

At 8:20 PM on Friday, February 20, 1976, Kathryn Kuhlman went home to be with Jesus. She was 68 years old.

Oral Robert's presided over her funeral at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, CA. Kathryn was buried in the same cemetery a half mile from Aimee Semple McPherson's vault.

She did not have a Catholic funeral nor is she burried in a Catholic cemetery.

Read this from a news article about Kathryn Kuhlman.
http://www.speroforum.com/site/blog.asp?id=13001

Despite being a Baptist preacher, many of Kuhlman's critics came from her own quarters. Among some of the harsher criticisms was the view that she was soft on Catholics.

In response to reports that she had a private audience October 11, 1972 with Pope Paul VI, some extreme Protestants still find their blood  boiling: "Katherine Kuhlman was a witch that was accepted by many. Do you suppose that the Pope blessed her for serving Jesus? Or could it be that an anti-christ was blessing one of his own servants."

Buckingham writes in her book "Daughter Of Destiny," that Kuhlman had "a special love for doctors, and wanted them either on the stage or on the front rows of the auditorium. The same was true of priests and nuns -  especially if they were ‘in uniform’. Nothing thrilled Kathryn more than to have thirty or forty Catholic clergymen, especially if they wore clerical collars or, better yet, cassocks, sitting behind her while she ministered. Somehow it seemed to lend authenticity to what she was doing — and helped create the proper climate of a trust and understanding which was so necessary for a miracle service."

Benny Hinn took over her ministry, and was trained by her.
If she was a catholic spy, then I suspect Hinn is one too.
Hinn went to catholic school and was taught by nuns. I used buy his tapes long ago.

"At that website it says that in a Billy Graham crusade there are catholic workers. When a catholic goes forward in an alter call for salvation, he is referred to catholic workers to be received back into the catholic church. People on another forum said that this is true."

What is your point?  He does that not to offend Catholics, because he is not out to woe them from being Catholic, but to save their souls.  He also has Protestant workers of every denom there too.   My husbands grandmother was in her 80's and a devout Catholic when she saw Billy Graham and received Jesus as LORD.  Until then, she had just been a Catholic.  She as saved and when she died, she went to Heaven.

BTW...  You said Kuhlman had a Catholic funeral... and that is not so.  A mass was said for Kathryn Kuhlman? SO WHAT?  Anyone can have a mass said for any one by giving an offering. My FIL has one said for us every Christmas and it means nothing to me.  I am not Catholic, I am not going to be Catholic and I don't care how many mass's are said. BTW... all that means is that when a mass was done, a list of names is spoken as to who they dedicate it to.... it does not mean that that person is Catholic or that they condone it or care.  I know I don't.  I laugh when I get that card in the mail that says he did that. What a waste of money to me. BUT... THAT DOES NOT MEAN that Kathryn Kuhlman was a Catholic any more than my praying in a Sunday service for someone makes them an Assembly of God member.

You have proved nothing about Billy Graham in your accusations, you have only believed someone else who said it and now you are stating it as truth. But, until you see Billy Graham go into a Confessional or sitting in mass yourself saying the Rosary, you are accusing a Brother in the LORD who has impeccable standing and you should be ashamed.

Kathryn was soft on Catholics?  What is that supposed to mean?  That she had a place in her heart for them and she regarded them fondly?  She liked to minister when they were there... DUH!  Yeah... so that they could see the truth and she could be a witness to them.

Benny Hinn did not take over her ministry... she left her ministry to others and He was not one of them.  She did not train him, he attended a couple of her crusades before she died and met her once.  You REALLY need to check your information before you go about spouting as truth things that can easily be discounted in history.  Infact, the person she ended up leaving the ministry to she only knew for 18 months and it caused a great scandal.  She trusted him rather than many of her very close associates who were with her for years.

I'm no fan of Kathryn Kuhlman or Benny Hinn...  ANYONE here can tell you I have no fondness for Catholicism on any level.  The practice of the Religion and the many many falsehoods that have been taught to the people.  It's a shame, a sad shame.  Yet, I am not going to bear false witness against someone just because of the Catholic rituals I don't find to be biblical in practice.  But you are bearing false witness here.  And to come here and bears false witness about such a Brother as Billy Graham is a sad shame.  These accusations are nothing but fabrications by the enemy and he is using you to spread them.  You need to repent of this and stop it.

Assemblies of God is a Christian Organization with doctrines of receiving the Holy Spirit with evidence by speaking in tongues. Acts 19:2 "Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?" Acts 19:6  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

They somewhat follow the doctrines of Arminianism as pertaining to salvation, while much of the Church such as Baptists follow Calvinistic doctrines.

There are different Pentecostal assemblies such as the one I attend that mix the different doctrines. We do not have an assembly you can join, as all Christians already belong to and are members of the body of believers regardless of their divisions through organizations. We follow more of the Baptist doctrines pertaining to salvation. And so there are differences in Pentecostal churches.

Charismatic is another word introduced in the past century to describe the Pentecostal experience. May Catholics filled with the Holy Spirit use this term.

Both Charismatic and Pentecostal believers both believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit such as miracles of healing, prophesy, and knowledge remain in effect for today.
The following is quoted from "Latter Rain" Falling in the East: Early-Twentieth-Century Pentecostalism in India and the Debate Over Speaking in Tongues

Though not openly recognized for years, in 1906 the church experienced what is known as a resurgence of the Holy Spirit called the Latter Rain Movement. Acts 2:17. "And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:"
When queried today about the origins of modern Pentecostalism,
historians point to revivals at Charles E Parham's Bethel Bible School
in Topeka, Kansas (1901), and the Apostolic Faith Mission on Azusa
Street in Los Angeles, California (1906-1909).4 Many early Pentecostals looked to Azusa as the fountainhead of the movement.

Journal article by Gary B. McGee; Church History, Vol. 68, 1999

God Theological Seminary.

larry

i attend an assembly of God church...though i don't hold the same beliefs that they hold towards salvation...the ag teaches that salvation can be lost or forfeited...i don't hold to this belief...i'm pretty much what i would call reformed in my doctrine...i believe the 5 points of calvinism (t.u.l.i.p.)...

i also believe that the gifts of the Spirit are for the church today, though they are grossly misused (out of ignorance) and abused (out of pride)...

God bless

Hi everyone. I think it most beneficial to show that there are distinct differences between "Pentecostal" and the "AoG" Church.

First off "Pentecostal"- That is a type of "movement" within Christianity. There are particular religions that fall under that and other such types like- "Charismatic", plus more.

The AoG is simply a "religion that falls under the specific guidlines set forth by the Early Christian Fathers, to seperate the difference between true "Christian Religions", and Cult Religions.

While the AoG is not the longest existing "Religion", it is one of the most popular for its style of operating. Nearly every AoG Church you go to, will be slightly different in thier operating, because of more allowed freedom, within God's Word, to operate and grow.

I agree with this type of "attitude", for the fact no one area is exactly the same as another, and it takes a Christian system, willing to research each area in order to help it establish Churches that will be accepted and popular, without straying against God.

Just as God had made Paul "all things to all people", God can also help churches to fit into areas- (Communities), in order to attract the unsaved to God, as well as benefit the Community and grow for God as such.

God Bless!!

Ok, I've read this whole thread and that's it - I'm going to go to my Yellow Pages and see what AOG is in my city.

Thank you all.

Wow, this thread is really wild.  Lets forget about all the politics against the Catholics and also the past mistakes of the half baked Assembly of God founders.  Lets talk about the current Assemblies of God.  Although we are basically Roman Catholic, my wife has worked at the nearby Assemblies of God private school (K-12) for 15 years, and my son attended school there from preschool until his High School graduation.  The modern church is more Charismatic with hippie type guitar music than the old Pentecostal Assemblies with the traditional hymns.   Yes, I am old enough to remember the old Assemblies.

The Diocese of Oakland, CA (Roman Catholic) has a Charismatic Renewal with monthly Healing Masses at various Catholic Churches.  (30 per month)  At these Catholic Healing Masses they sing the old Assemblies Hymns and people go up front and Prophesy like the did in the old Assemblies.  I have never seen anything like that lately (last 20 years) at the Assembly that my wife works for.   It is more of a Charismatic Worship Service.  Like, no one brings a bucket to vomit the bad spirits into.  At both the modern Catholic and modern Assembly there is an Alter Call where hurting members can go forward and be prayed for.  The Catholic Healing Mass usually has a long line of wheel chairs, but the Assembly doesn't.  Modern Californians seem to be more interest in Praise and Worship, so that is where the money is.  My son moved over to the mega church with Starbucks lounge and free donuts.

Of course you wont see any of that during a regular Catholic Mass.  The Healing Mass is usually on Friday or Saturday evening, but they can be at any time except replacing the regular scheduled Mass.  The Healing Mass is sponsored by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Office, but there are a few other sponsors in this Diocese.  The Bishop attended one that I was at.  Are you interested in starting Catholic Charismatic Renewal in your Diocese, or do you object to things like the Traditional Latin Mass or Charismatic Healing Mass?  In any case, don't try to connect the two.  You should know that if you are Catholic. The connection is between the "old school" Assemblies and the "new school" NO Mass.

I'm not Catholic...  But most of my family is and all of Dh family is.  My Fil attends Saturday evening mass....  he says it's the same mass as on Sunday morning, but he likes to go on Saturday now.  A lot of Catholics are opting for the Saturday evening rather than the Sunday morning mass now.
