Growing up strickly Non-denominational

Well I grew up going to a nondenominational church, and my father always told me that anyone who went to any other church (specifically one led by a pastor) they would be in sin. I understand that this is probably not true, but it has kept me very closed minded about going to church again, quite frankly my father pushed me away from god for so long with his extremely strict beliefs.
  I am 23 now, and i have had the opportunity to go to a baptist church, and my friend has even told me it is as close to a nondenominational church as I am going to get...I don't really know what the difference between them are, since it has never been explained to me, on if beliefs are the same, or  what.  I don't believe I am in sin if I go, but I would like to know what to expect. Thank you

It's sad that there are denominations. I believe it is because christians are not all prepared to follow what the Word of God says and what the Holy Spirit says. The Lord is not double-minded and we shouldn't be either.

Christianity is the most divided.....and yet it is the only belief with the truth.

You won't find denominations among Hindus, Muslims, or any false religion.

Satan is alive and well in the church.

I believe that a church should not be led by one pastor. I don't believe this is what God wants. A Pastor is not a position nor a title, it is a gift.
He has laid out the running of the church in His word. A church should be led by elders and christian men who have the gift and ability to preach should be encouraged to do so.


I think picking a baptist church is a safe option. A good idea to do before attending a new church is to phone them and ask them what they believe.
Remember to always weigh everything that is preached against the Bible.

Actually Muslims have two major denominations that have killed each other for centuries. They are the Sunni and the Shi'ite.

Hinduism doesn't have a set doctrine with which to divide its following. The proponents therein usually seek a specific deity to follow and follow him/her based on the parameters therein. Historically speaking the diversity of polytheism doesn't breed denominationalism because it lacks any initial unity to be divided against.

There are divisions among those who adhere to false religions also. Division is inherent in humans in the natural.

Being non-denominational can also bring problems, for there are many non-denominational churches that take on that assignation, but they can be just as off the wall as  some denominations---cultish, even.

Why recommend a denominational church to anyone, if you think poorly of them? I grew up in an excellent denominational church---the Christian and Missionary Alliance. If I would recommend any church, I would recommend that, or The Vineyard.

However, if one seriously wants to find the church family God is calling him to, then merely stop and pray about it and ask God to lead. He has a people in mind for everyone, and the problem is that many do not seek His leading, but go to where they feel good. It isn't about feelings. A great church is one who preaches the truth of the word, even on matters that aren't popular, and one that challenges you to live out your faith, and to come up higher in the Lord, to seek more and more of God. A church that teaches us to see a need and fill it is an outward-focused church and a gem! If that is a non-denominational church, then get there in a hurry!

Wow your dad was wrong!

I don't associate myself with any demonination.  I believe the Word of God alone.  I read it myself and pray to God to help me understand it and also to do his will.

I like the Baptist church it has a strong doctrine, even though I don't agree with a few things.  Overall I think Baptists are great.
