Westboro Baptist Church
« on: Mon Mar 07, 2011 - 11:17:46 »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After hearing about the U. S. Supreme Court's ruling concerning the right of Westboro Baptist Church to protest at the funerals of our servicemen, I feel some things concerning Biblical teaching on homosexuality and sin in general need to be made clear.

First of all God hates ALL sin, some maybe more than others when He calls them abominations in His sight. The sins of homosexuality, adultery, fornication, beastiality, lying, and drunkeness wouild fit in this category.

Nowhere through my perusals of the Scriptures can I find God hating the sin of homosexuality more than any other sexual sin. He always refers to them as acts of abomination with no emphasis on which is more or less abominible. Man has a tendency to hate some sins with a passion while ignoring others without any concern whatsoever.

This group of people is in the right church but the wrong pew. In other words it is not of a question of hate but rather one of anger. God indeed is angry at America for how she has turned away from Him and His ways. The anger comes from the fact how more and more violent our weather is getting. Records are constantly being set for weather extremes. Never in my 74 years of existence have I seen so much violent weather AND IF THIS NATION DOES NOT REPENT OF ITS SINFUL AND IMMORAL WAYS GOD WILL CONTINUE TO REIGN DOWN HIS VENGEANCE WITH EVEN GREATER FEROCITY

And why doesn't this church stand in front of abortion clinics and protest. The killing of babies is an abomination in God's sight. Why doesn't this church stand in front of Hugh Hefner's mansion and protest. Isn't the promotion of fornication an abomination in His sight?

I fear for this group if they keep preaching hate they will no longer be effective witnesses of the Gospel, scaring people away from God rather than toward Him. If this attitude of theirs continues it is possible their own hearts will harden and then God will turn against them for not loving thy neighbor as yourself. The Bible says "you cannot hate a person and still love Him because LOVE IS OF GOD, NOT HATE!

I, too, call for this nation to repent of its evil ways so God can again heal the land and its people from the moral abyss in which they find themselves. I will no longer say or sing "God Bless America" until America deserves His blessings. We are hypocrites for doing this because God will only pour out His blessings on those who honor His Word and believe in and follow His Son, Jesus Christ. Rather I now say or sing "God Save America". In fact like this group I rewrote the words to reflect how evil we have become and iisued a call unto repentance so God will bless this nation. And in that change I never wrote "hate"

Westboro Church, the way you are trying to evangelize is that like PETA, which I do support on a number of issues, but detest their display of nudity and other indecent things they do (it turns people off and even against you). I have warned them and now I warn Westboro. Don't do or say things that will deliberately turn people against you, particularly in areas on which they have strong moral values and turn them away from God

I dont think evangelsim is what preacher  Fred Phelps is interested in doing..

I Dont even know the reason he calls his church a baptist church .

Im thinking  Perhaps its because he really doesnt like baptists .

And its his way of giving them all a  bloody nose and a black eye.

Their some preachers running around Calling their churchs  Lutheran
to
For i think the same reason ..

There is very little God in that church...  Seeing the hatred they show to their fellow people is enough to show us what is in their hearts, and that is not love.

If their problem was really with homosexuals, they would protest homosexuals, not soldiers.  Where were they in CA or NY when they voted for (or against) gay marriage?  Where were they when Disney introduced "gay day?" Where are they in cities like New Orleans and San Fransisco?  They aren't there....  Instead they are standing outside churches and along outside of burials for servicemen killed fighting a war which has nothing to do with homosexuality.

Recently, they were given a huge black eye in Jackson, MS (my hometown) when they came to protest at the funeral of a 19 year old soldier killed in Afhganistan.  Instead of a violent reaction like in so many other cities, which only bolsters their numbers it seems, the local Jeep club decided to simply not allow them to attend the funeral by blocking their cars in at the hotel where they spent the night.  The local police (which in Jackson are mostly vets themselves) were too busy preforming traffic duties for the two thousand who attended the funeral to come force a bunch of people to move their jeeps, and Jackson's only cab company (Veterans Cab service) refused to give them rides.

Heck, even Waffle House refused them service...

Greetings, all!

The OP makes some interesting and thought - provoking points.

One of my complaints about the Baptist churches is there doesn't seem to be any way of distancing themselves
from Westboro.  The buy into some basic-mostly unwritten--ideas of the Baptist church and therefore can say
they are Baptists and are in communion with them.

Don't get me wrong--there are things (and people) about the Baptist church that I admire, but
its lack of organization isn't one of them.
