What does 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 mean? Is that the true gospel that saves? Or is it 1 Corinthians 15:3-4? I'm really confused.
(taken from Biblegateway)

3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

 5And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

 6After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

 7After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

 8And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

I'm confused beacuse you hear "death,burial, ressurection so much, but how can that be it when Paul has "first" (I bolded it) and "last" (also bolded). What I mean is from the "first" thing Paul listed to the "last" thing he listed, wouldn't that be the gospel?

hey,
this is a tricky verse, but im going to give it my best,   Smile

3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

so here paul is saying that because he has recieved the spirit from what he had heard, he is goin to tell you about it

the according to the scriptures part is  saying that the prophecies that were foretold in the scripture (older than the bible) came true when Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins

Paul is telling us what the scripture had foretold and how it became fulfilled

The stuff that paul wrote in the book is called the gospel yes,  the gospel is pauls recounting of the events,

the scripture is the prophecies that propheciesed Jesus and all of the amazing things that he did...

Hope that made sence to you...

Amen!

God bless

Is there anyway you could explain all of 1 Corinthians 15:3-8bto me?

3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

this part means that he is telling you all that he has learned... "For i delivered unto you first all that which I also received"      "for I delievered unto you" means "I gave you....           "first all that which I also received" means "just like i received"  so there he is saying "i gave you just like i received"  He has given you the word of God and has told us how Christ died for our sins...what he said was what had been prophecized in the scriptures....

4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

"and that He was buried" He was Jesus Christ and when He died 'they' buried Him in his tomb...."and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures" and this part means that even after three days of being dead Jesus Christ was risen from the dead like the scriptures had said....

5And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

John 1:42
He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John, you shall be called Cephas", which is translated 'Peter'. (New International Version)

so basically Simon son of John was called Cephas which translates to Peter...the translation in Aramic means Peter...
So Jesus Christ appeared to Peter and "then of the twelve" which means the twelve deciples.

6After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

"After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once;" So basically after Jesus apeared to His twelve deciples he apeared to more than five hundred other christians who were in a group.
 "of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep"  ....
"of whom the greater part remain unto this present,"  this means "most of them are still alive" (at his time of course)
"but some are fallen asleep" that means that "some of them have gone into the sleep of death...

 7After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

"after that, he was seen of James;" So after the five hundred brethern Jesus Christ apeared to James...
"then of all the apostles" after seeing James, Jesus Christ apeared to the apostles...

 8And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

"And last of all he was seen of me also,"  this means that after the resurection Jesus showed himself to Cephas, the twelve, the five hundred brethern, James, and the apostles But He chose to reveile Himself to the author after all of the others...

I'm not to sure what "as of one born out of due time" means....

I hope that this helped a bit

Thank you, but can you explain what it means that He died for our sins and He rose again?

He died for our sins because before Jesus came only the Jewish people were able to recieve salvation.  When Jesus came to Earth he not only saved the Jewish people but he saved the Gentiles....The Gentiles being everyone else other than the Jewish people...
When Jesus died for our sins that made the whole thing real...Jesus was practically a sacrifice to God to save all of humanity if they chose to accept...
When Jesus rose from the death he proved to everyone that what he did was not fake and that when he comes again everyone will rise from the death and be judged...
He proved that death was really only like sleep and was going to be broken when he came again...

Hope that helps,
and that im not totally going off on the wrong thing...lol

Britt and IWS - just to clarify the verse 8 - 'Jesus appeared to Paul, last.  Paul was the one 'born out of due time'.  He wasn't a follower of Jesus he was a persecutor of the new Christians, zealously killing them.  Until he met Jesus on the Damascus road.  See Acts:9 This is where 'Saul' became 'Paul'.  We don't know exactly what happened to him, how he met Jesus but 2 Cor 12 gives us a glimpse of what happened.  We know Paul was the Apostle Paul because he saw the resurrected Christ.

IWS - Have you received the salvation your title asks for?
Titus 3:5 " Not by works of rigteousness which, we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost"

Eph 2:8&9 " For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast"

Have you received the gift?
