I understand, Butch5.  The devil can only do what we allow him to do.   Tipping hat
Bonnie, Does this still hold true in the case of Job? I am sure you are familiar  with the OT story of him

God allowed Satan to attack Job but he wasn't allowed to take his life. Yes, Satan was restrainted.

Predestination is the act by which God predetermines a thing before hand, even before time. All that God has predetermined will surely come to pass.

Predestination is when you arrive where you're going before you start going there, which means you must have been there to start with, and you are simply a bit confused.

 Doh! What?!?!

Rom 8:30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

 1 Cor 2:7 but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory;

Acts 4:27 "For truly in this city there were gathered together against Your holy servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,

Acts 4:28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose predestined to occur.

I find nothing in God's Word rediculous or a thing that it is wise to make mockery of.

Frankley, I am deeply offended.

I never intended for my confusion and light-heartedness to offend anyone.  I'm very sorry, Hobbit.

I think he's referring to my post, Bonnie.  You're all good.

Hobbit, I'm poking fun at Terrence's post, not the Bible.  If I wanted to make fun of a Bible word, it would be "emerods."  Lighten up a bit, eh?

Does it make sense for God to chose to elect someone because he foresaw that they would believe? If he knew they would already believe, why predestine to save them, since their belief already would save them? Please explain this to me, as I really want to try to understand how you guys understand scripture.

This will depend on how you view predestination: whether on a totaly individual case, or individually through the collective. In the second the predestination of God is not the single choosing of each, but the work of Jesus Christ in salvation. It was Christ crucified that was predestined so that each individual might be saved if they chose to believe, and thereby receive him. This is the Gospel message.

What is Predestination?

If we look at this concept from God’s point of view, then everything is in a predestination mode. Why? Because God knows all things past, present and especially future. If God knows everything that is going to occur in all of our futures - down to the smallest and most minute details - then this means we are all in a "predestination mode" with God since God knows exactly what all of our futures are going to hold for us. As a result, everything is predestined as far as He is concerned.

that's great, but that is not what predsitination is.

to predetermine, decide beforehand
in the NT of God decreeing from eternity
to foreordain, appoint beforehand

God predetermined who would be His. Not because He sees the future, but because he ordained it in the past.
