I was musing the other day about why there aren't any Calvanists who are Charismatics.

I think that the perhaps the answer is that the manifestation of the Spirit in signs and wonders conflicts with the doctrine of persevearance of the saints.

But what do you who are Calvanists think?

There are those who are Charismatic and Reformed.  There are posters on this very board who describe themselves as something along this line.  I don't see how manifestations of the Spirit conflict with the Perseverance/Preservation of the Saints.

If one believes that the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every true believer as an evidence of their sealing with the Spirit...

And believes that sealing with the Spirit is God's guarantee of salvation...

And then sees some of those who have manifested the works of the Spirit go astray...

It doesn't add up to P.

But maybe somebody who would characterize themself as a Charasmatic Calvanist could shed some light on how that problem resolves itself?

Would they say it is a false manifestation?

Would they say it is a false manifestation?
That would mean that they have to admit that they don't know how to tell the difference.  Can't tell the Spirit of God apart from the works of El Diablo.

That's pretty much saying that you don't know God.

I don't know any Charismatic who would admit that, but what do I know?

By charasmatic I'm not sure what you mean.

I believe in signs and wonders, I also believe in false signs and wonders.

I'm a charismatic Calvarminian - there is no conflict between the works of the Spirit and the eternal security of the believer.

I am a Calminian too, although I don't know if I would be considered charismatic or not though.

I simply think you should learn to spell the word if you're going to engage others in a discussion.
It's C-a-l-v-i-n-i-s-t-s.  You know, like Arminians vs Armenians.

I don't know if we can classify Armenians as a theological group.

Nor do I know if we can classify Calvanists as a theological group. Smile

Wycliffes-Schilagh

Years ago I went to a Baptist Church with a friend  in Pennsylvania. Mid way through the service people began speaking in tongues. Hence there is at least one Calvinistic Charismatic Church out there.
