In my reading of Dave Hunt's book, i have only to compare his so called theology to that of jack chick.

A propogandist at best who does not understand the teachings of the church.

G'day All.
Just wanted to say, for what it's worth, that I'm a 42 yr old "Catholic Christian". I say that in this forum simply to differentiate myself from the "Bible Only Christians". I was also a "Bible Only Christian" once myself, so I understand the simple and beautiful way "Protestant Christians" approach the Faith.
Out in the world I am simply a "Christian"   What do I think of this Dave Hunt bloke?  Not much.  His arguments have been refuted and denied by serious Christian Scholars of all denominations. However, like all extremism, there is always a section of every community that will grasp at it and hold on.
Now do I claim my Catholic Christianity is innocent of such a charge herself? No. Our own history is full of stories of individuals leading, sometimes a few, sometimes thousands into extreme approaches to scripture interpretation. But that to me is the thing!
My Catholic Faith "has" a history. It's a human one.
Full to the brim, of Peters. Denying Christ in times of self peril. Running away, Doing the wrong thing.
That's why I know Our Lord Jesus protects it. It is The Church He Built upon all of us Peters. It shouldn't be here after 2000 yrs, but it is. Despite all our failings, it lives. It often gets chastised. But it fulfills His promises. "Not even the gates of hell shall prevail against you"

Problem for me is, that I'm starting to realise just how much we actually destroy His People by all these arguments.

After 450 odd years, lets face it. "We" aren't going to fix it. And the more "we" argue about who's right, the world we're supposed to be saving, walks further away because they rightfully argue that we ourselves can't decide on the "truth", so what makes us any different from the Muslims, or Bhudhists, or Greenpeace

At what point do we try and start figuring out a way to work together as "Christians" to do what He asked us to do.

Manna for you my friend.  Manna for you.   If only we could convince Christians outside of our Holy Mother Church that it is Christ.   Walk into any Catholic Church and at the center of it, our teaching's, our authority, our Alter, our Mass;  is our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Dear sir you are right. Christianity in general has just become in many ways to the world at large just another religion and quite a confused one. How does one decide who is the right church.?  We ask the question to which denomination or organized church should I be of, or a member of? To a man who is searching for God, could just as easily say I want to be a muslem because there is so much division, fighting or having to choose sides in this thing we call Christianity. So much so that the word Christian holds little meaning of truth anymore. You yourself are searching for that truth. This is why maybe you decided to believe the RCC is that right church. Don’t get me wrong but modern day traditions has painted a wrong concept of who represents or is Christ true church     I do not believe the Lord see any of this when he looks at his church. What he sees is a church that has lost its sight in the valley of confusion that Satan has so masterfully brought  us into. We see the church more as an organization of churches and its leaders more that seeing the church as a people of faith in Christ.

Jesus said I am the vine and you are the branches. It is Christ who brings life to the branches. When he spoke this he was not talking about different churches, systems, or orders, but different believers who are the church. You see how we have made the church something it is not. The Lord sees neither Catholic or Protestant. The night I got saved I was alone and very much needed to believe in him. I did not belong to some organized church that claimed to be the right church. I was saved that night by faith and he so wonderfully made himself real to me.  Was it joining some church that made me a child of the king. No! It was my faith to believe that made me his.

Why have we made the church a thing, an organization, or a place we go to instead of understanding the we are all his church because we all individually cling to his vine of life  I see Christianity as a whole and because of traditions of men and multiple beliefs from liberal  to those of strict interpretation along with corruptions I see Christianity as a tree gone bad. Have you ever seen a tree that is half dead while the other half still clings to life, but the tree as a whole can no longer produce good fruit. This is what has happened. Jesus still has his bride and he will save them out of all this at the harvest, and the chaff shall be burned.  This will not be a denominational or a Protestant Catholic thing. He knows who it is that love him and those who just go through the motions. So I say to you, you want to be a Catholic but first and foremost be one who truly loves Christ.

Dear McleesB,
That's just it. I do love Jesus. And believe it was He who led me to the Catholic Church.
Saint Ignatius wrote in approx 96AD ( Only 70 years after Christ....a far difference between the Protestant claim that the Catholic Church did not exist until 300 odd )

"They will not come to our prayer or Eucharist, because they do not believe the bread we eat is the flesh of Our Lord Jesus"

The Catholic Church still teachers this important truth. 2000 yrs later. "Not even the gates of hell shall prevail against you" , " The Holy Spirit will lead you in the ways of all truth"

Do you listen and obey Jesus? Or do you simply make up your own mind and then tell yourself it is the Holy Spirit leading you?

Regards
Fallen Knight

PS: Ignatius was a disciple of The Apostle John

if you would like to look at how many were killed by the weeds in the church, why don't we then look to the equal amounts killed by protestants? and then we can just bask in the sins of others, and never grow in our understanding of Truth?
