You must really hate them.

While I disagree with some Catholic beliefs, I hold no animosity to them or their history. I would rather just deal with the here and now and try to share different points of view regarding some of their beliefs. And, I have it as one major goal to change a mind or two. I certainly expect any one or more of those folks to do the same in my direction and for the same reason.

On a side note, I have recently seen somebody say (somewhere) that nobody is going to change their minds, what with the endless debating over the same topics again and again. Then why come here?

I have three goals here: 1) to learn stuff I don't presently know, even to have my mind changed about something I think I know the truth of. It has happened before. 2) to teach someone, or even change somebody else's mind where I think my point of view can be a benefit. 3) to enjoy the camaraderie that exists here.

There are ways of doing it, sure, but the Bible commends people who made sure that what they were taught was in line with the scriptures and we must all do that as well. The RC church has added on so much to what the Bible says, because they believe that their fallible church leaders views and teachings hold as much weight as Gods word. All that we believe MUST be in line with His Word, and if it isn't, or even contradicts it, then we should discard it.

I am saying this not just in regard to the recent threads in the Catholic Forum, but in any and all of our discussions on any forum. I think motives for posting also matters. If it's just to tell somebody, "You're wrong and so is your history," while it may not be wrong per forum rules, it does seem kind of unhealthy.

I have a coworker and friend who recently went Eastern Orthodox, and that relationship helps me to temper how I may feel about those who differ from me and how to converse with them. A hardline approach of just castigation is not the best, I would think.

I agree. Sometimes passion and conviction can be confused with castigation.

I cant agree, many of the main beliefs and teachings of the RC church are either not in the Bible or contrary to the Bibles teaching. Thats why I have rejected them.

Not in the Bible is not the same as contradicting the Bible, although I think all doctrines have some basis in the Bible.

I am personally not out to get anyone to change their faith tradition. If they are as secure in their faith as I am and are trying to live a holy life in the context of where they worship that is fine with me. My only desire here is to defend my faith tradition and to point out that in reality the only thing others got going is a different interpretation of the Scriptures that they in good conscience think is the correct interpretation.  We can share our different viewpoints, but in the end the only thing we can do is to agree that we disagree.

I myself go to Baptist services from time to time conducted by chaplains at truck stops when I cannot get to a Catholic Church. I enjoy the fellowship with fellow believers in Christ and hearing the Christian message once again helps keep me on track.
