They are the heroes      http://www.mtc.org/inquis.html

If not for them we will also be practicing those heresies listed below.

Tinker, one quick glance at your list, and I think you've misunderstood at least one item:

The worship of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the use of the term, "Mother of God", as applied to her, originated in the Council of Ephesus   431

The Greek term theotokos ("mother of God, or "god-bearer) was first applied at Ephesus, but it didn't mean what lots of people today think it means.

The Council of Ephesus was convened to settle the matter of the deity of Christ: Is he, indeed, God incarnate, or not?  The assembled bishops decisively affirmed that he is, indeed, God in the flesh.

Then, lest anyone misunderstand their meaning, they went on to clarify exactly who they were talking about.  This Jesus, who we call God, is the son of Mary.  Or to put it another way, Mary is his mother.  Hence, she is the theotokos.  However...

The term wasn't intended to elevate Mary to a special status.  It was simply a means to further confirm the identity of Jesus.

It wasn't until centuries later, that Marian devotion became especially popular.  And in order to show that the practice was legitimate, they looked back in church history for a precedent.  They found the records from Ephesus, which called Mary the "Mother of God."  They took it out of context, and used it for a purpose that was never intended by the people who coined the phrase. Look it up.  You'll see.

St. Dominic is one of the earliest champions of Mary.  Look him up, he's a good place to start.

We've been through this before.  Catholics don't worship Mary.

Your honesty is starting to show cracks.

.

Let's see what Church Tradition has given all Christians (including the Sola Scriptura crowd)

1) The...Scriptures. The Early Church Fathers decided which books are in, which are books are out.

1.  The EO has a UNIQUE set of books regarded as Scripture - accepted by no other denominaton on earth - past or present.  The RC also as a UNIQUE set of books regarded as Scripture - accepted by no other denomination on earth.

2.  While I agree that we often point to several esteemed Christians during the first 4 centuries or so as they note what Christians do or not embrace as Scripture, I don't think any of them stated this definitively or in some ecumenical and consistent way.  HOW the consensus of believers developed around 27 NT books is simply an issue that is unknown  - we only know that it did.   I agree with my Catholic teachers that Hippo, Trent, etc. were ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS of the consensus - not decisions.  But as we turn to the OT, we have roughly 49,997 denominations with a consensus (of sorts), the OO with a unique set (actually, several), the EO with a unique set and the RC (since Trent anyway) with a unique set - the OO, EO and RC have a consensus of one on this: self.

Quote
2) Trinity. Trinity is not mention even once in "Scripture"

While I'll agree that some of the LANGUAGE in the Athanasian Creed is extra biblical, the affirmation that God is one and yet three or three in one is simply the embrace of all that God reveals on this.   We leave it where Scripture does and affirm it as MYSTERY (a concept perfectly okay to Orthodox and Protestant Christians).

Quote
3) the full divinity and full humanity of Jesus

Very biblical....

Quote
4) Sunday, instead of Saturday, as the day of Christian Observance

This is CUSTOM.   There is no dogma about  this..... anywhere (outside of the "Seventh Day" sects).  Tomorrow, a WEDNESDAY, we Lutherans are going to gather for worship as Ash WEDNESDAY.

There are lots of CUSTOMS among us that aren't specifically exampled in Scripture.  Right now, I'm conversing on the internet.  The word "internet" is not once found in Scripture, lol.  It's okay, what I'm doing is PRAXIS, not DOGMA.

Quote
5) The perpetual virginity of Mary

DOGMA in only two of the 50,000 denominations some Catholics insist exist.

Yes, I agree with you, it is entirely abiblical and baseless.  (Moot, too, I would add).

Perhaps we should talk about those DOGMAS that make the RCC distinctive:   Purgatory, Infallibility of the bishop who serves in Rome, Transubstantiation, Assumption of Mary, Immaculate Conception of Mary, etc., etc., etc - what makes the RCC the RCC.  Of course, no one can claim "Apostolic Tradition" or "Apostolic Succession" or "Apostolic Authority" on any of these because the RC and EO each acknowledge the validity of such for each other but the EO knows nothing of these de fide dogmas - they don't agree with each other EVEN ON THE VERY HIGHEST LEVEL - dogma.

Yes understand your explainations, see the prayer below..

THE PRAYER
A SALUTATION TO THE IMMACULATE.
(For the 150th Anniversary
of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception)

O Immaculate Virgin Mary,
Mother of God and Our Mother:
Queen of Heaven and Earth,
Mediatrix of every grace!
Thou through whom dost shine the whole splendor
and magnificence of the Trinity!
O Fount of Light!
O Light of all lights!
O shining Brightness of the Eternal Light!
O spotless Mirror of the Divine Majesty!
O Window upon the Divine Nature!
O Portal opening unto Eternity!
O blessed Gate of Heaven!
O Doorway thru which has shone the Light of men!
O Door of the Most High King!
O Horizon out of which is arisen the Sun of Justice!
O Promontory above the Ocean of Divinity!
O Watchtower before the blazing Majesty of God!
O Star of the Sea!
O Star of Heaven, who alone has crushed all the Stars
fallen from Heaven!
O Morning Star, who has merited to usurp the name of the first fallen Star!
Thou who dost now gaze upon the wondrous abundance of the Divine Vision,
as the One closer to the Face of God than all creatures!
Rejoice O Thou, who has borne the Clarity of the Eternal Light!
Rejoice, O glorious and mystical City of God!
Rejoice, O Thou, who art more glorious than the Sun,
more beautiful than the Moon,
who dost shine more golden than the dawn,
more brightly than the stars.
Rejoice O Mother of the Lamb, the Light of the City of
God, who has made Thee shine forever with His own incomparable Light!
Rejoice, O Immaculate Virgin,
who dost hold the Light of God in the palms of Thy hands,
who dost behold the Child Jesus,
the Eternal Light,
in wondrous glory for all eternity!
Rejoice O Most Blessed Virgin,
for it is through Thee that all the Angels of Heaven
and all the Choirs of the Elect
art enlightened and filled with the Incomparable Radiance!

O Immaculate Mother,
lead us to Heaven,
inflame us with the Divine Love,
let shine upon us that same light of glory
which Thou dost behold forever!
Let us see What Thou dost see and gaze upon Him in Trinity,
that we may share the fullness of Thy Heart’s joy forever!
Let it be!
Let it be!

Amen.

The worship of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the use of the term, "Mother of God", as applied to her, originated in the Council of Ephesus   431

We've been through this before.  Catholics don't worship Mary.

Oops.   ::eek:: That's not what I meant to say.  I was trying to quote someone else, and explain the historical context.  The post after that one, explains what I was trying to say.

Trinity. Trinity is not mention even once in "Scripture"

Nor is the word "Bible"  ::noworries::

Nor the word "Baptist" (as a sectarian designation)

Nor "Protestant"  ::juggle::

Nor "believer's baptism" or "infant baptism."

This is a very weak argument.   ::frown:: The lack of a specific word, can neither prove or disprove anything.

I think that was the point.

God guided the Church.
In an Ecumenical Council of the Orthodox/Catholic Churches: God's will = Decision of the Council
So God wanted to communicate the doctrine of Trinity and guided the Bishops in the council of Nicaea  to make the right choice. The Bishops were His instruments, nothing more, nothing less

The Godhead at Nicea was defined just as the Bible defines it: not remotely similar to the Catholic dogma of trinity which in fact is father, mother and eternally infant (helpless) son.  Most people who speak "trinity" don't know what was taught:

The links to the comments in pictures below:

http://www.piney.com/FathIrenaHerII.html#THE

http://www.piney.com/Augustine.Faith.Creed.html

Those who began to define the Godhead as OPPOSITE to the  three person (gods) of all pagans, did not include the  Spirit OF Christ or the Spirit OF God as a separated being.  Augustine who wrote the most warned against making dogma out of the concept. He quotes some of the views at  that time.

Jesus spoke the WORDS of God because He had the Spirit of God WITHOUT METER (so metron can be read).  This fits the pattern that  SPEAK is the opposite of poetry (meter) music. Speak as in rhetoric would define a hypocrite.

Good grief.  I am not Roman Catholic but I know enough to know that they do NOT teach the Trinity is Father, Mother and Son.  What crock.    ::frown:: ::destroyingcomputer::
