I enjoy George MacDonald most of all. I especially like Phantastes, but also novels like At the Back of the North Wind and Sir Gibbe. I like his fairy tales as well, eg The Light Princess and The Golden Key. My favorite by Tolkien has to be The Lord of the Rings. I also like the Narnia series but not as well as MacDonald or Tolkien. MacDonald was just such a splendid writer of prose and poetry and had such an imagination. Tolkien was able to fashion another world with its own geography, history, races and languages. The Lord of the Rings was such a masterpiece.
Geneh 33, MacDonald's books are in the public domain and entire tests should be available on line. His books should be readily available on Amazon.com. JRR Tolkien's books are everywhere. MacDonald's books are infused with Christian theology. Tolkien's fantasy was more disconnected from his faith. MacDonald was also mentor to Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland) and was an influence on CS Lewis.
