Adult Prayer and Bible Study

Thoughts to consider.........

Religion today is not transforming people: rather it is being transformed by the people.  it is not raising the moral level of society it is descending  to society's own level, and  congratulating  itself that it has scored a  victory because society is smilingly  accepting  surrender.     A. W. Tozer

Religion never saved a man

Only Jesus Christ can.

All heresy is either the  bible plus, or the bible minus.

Lewis S. Chafer

God has condescended to  become an author, and yet people will not read his writings.  There are very few that ever gave this book of God, the grand charter of salvation,  one  fair reading through.

HISTORICAL TRIVIA

In George Washington's  days, there were no  cameras

One's image was  either sculpted or painted.

Some  paintings of George Washington  showed  him standing

behind a desk with  one  arm  behind his back  while  others showed both legs and both arms.

Prices charged by  painters were not   based on how many people were to be painted, but  by how

many limbs were to be  painted.

Arms and legs are 'limbs' therefore painting them would cost the buyer more.

Hence the expression,  "Okay, but it'll cost you and arm and a  leg."

(Artists know hands and arms are more difficult to paint )

Sorry if there are mistakes !    I have not yet learned how to copy off of the computer...

In the late 1700's, many  houses consisted of a large room with only one chair.  Commonly, a long wide board folded down from the  wall, and was used for  dining.  The "head of the household." always sat in the chair while everyone else ate sitting on the floor.

Occasionally a quest, who was usually a man, would  be invited to sit in the chair during a meal.

To sit in the chair meant you were important and in charge.

They called the one sitting in the  chair the "chair man:.

Today in business, we use the expression or title

"Chairman" or "Chairman of the Board."

Gotta laugh ~ Church Bloopers

Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale.  It's chance to get rid of those thing not worth keeping around the house.  Bring your husbands.

A bean supper will  be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall.   Music will follow.

At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be  "What is Hell?"  Come early and listen to our choir practice.

The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility.

Low Self-Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7PM.  Please use the back door.
