Thanks Lee. Looks interesting. From the description, it sort of reminds me of Randy Alcorn's book. I will definitely put it on my to read list.

I'll probably be doing some book shopping at the end of June.  I'll put it on my list.

I'm glad someone is trying to dispel the myths on this topic.... I think they should attack the subject of angels next.

I have a copy (of the old edition).  I agree with what he says about there not really being individual guardian angels, btw.

I believe angels are scary cusses because "Do Not Be Afraid" is usually the first thing they say. Some cute little tart with wings doesn't sound scary to me.

Right  ::thumbup::

Remember "tough guy" Daniel's response to an angelic appearance. He seems to have fainted and been too weak to speak or stand without help. This is the guy with enough courage to risk his life standing up to a king who had the power and inclination to execute him.  ::eek::

That's what the one I saw said to me.  "Don't be afraid; I won't hurt you."
 ::lookaround::

Oops.  Forget I said that.

Good points. I don't know how angels got to be depicted as feminine, tender and cute. For all we know they look like the incredible hulk. All the examples in the Bible had people falling down and freaking out when they saw them.

personally, I think angels may be able to assume many forms, but this is just my own personal opinion, of course.  I have read both "Seeing the Unseen" (own both editions!) and "Angels" by Dr. Edward Meyers (I think that is correct) and several other short reference books.  My real, honest to goodness opinion is that until I actually see one, I will only make assumptions on alot of the facts and myths surrounding angels and no one has an absolute lock on what angels really look like.

I do know what you mean.  Heck, some artwork depicts the very Christ as if He were a particularly anemic transvestite.
Quote
Zechariah 5:5-11
Then the angel who talked with me came out and said to me, "Lift your eyes now, and see what this is that goes forth."
So I asked, "What is it?" And he said, "It is a basket that is going forth." He also said, "This is their resemblance throughout the earth:
Here is a lead disc lifted up, and this is a woman sitting inside the basket";
then he said, "This is Wickedness!" And he thrust her down into the basket, and threw the lead cover over its mouth.
Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven.

Some sort of female/feminine Heavenly servants, anyway...  and hardly tarty.

If they can appear as animals, men, etc, the can appear as women--maybe with Halos and wings.  Let's no be too quick to limit the abilities of spiritual beings who we know through Scripture that can assume various forms.

Lee W,

I finished the book two nights ago.  Interesting!  There is at least two subjects that you and Joe need to add.  I saw almost everything I could imagine I wanted to know except:

1.  What will we wear in Heaven in the way of clothes?  Will there be clothing factories in Heaven    ::headscratch::    ::smile::  If we are a combination of a renewed and combined physical/spiritual body that is capable of amazing things, is there really any need for physical clothing?  If the Garden was representative of Heaven in the creation and Adam and Eve were created naked and they were not ashamed and God considered his workmanship good, is there a message in that since no one will marry and be given in marriage and they will be as the angels?  Sounds like a crazy way of thinking but in all honesty, after reading the book, that is one thing that jumped into my mind.  What exactly will we wear in the next life?

2.  I was involved in a rather heated dicussion once on whether we will still be given the opportunity (or temptation) to sin when in Heaven or would we have the sin nature stripped away and the thoughts of wanting to or desiring to sin taken away?  Will we still have to struggle with the old rememberances of what our sinful lives were like which, to me, would be extremly hellish.  I have my own opinions but I would love to know what Joe thinks on that.

I think Joe is very correct in that we all have some of the same thoughts and feelings he has experienced and written about regarding what Heaven will be like.  Enjoyed the book!

Of course, these thoughts could be the Texas heat has fried my brains after loading about a ton of dirt and rock from my backyard into a small trailor and dumping it in the last two days!

I think we'll be nekkid. That was the thought that hit me on Thursday listening to Adrian Rogers preach on heaven (he of course never said a word about it).

Have you read Donald Miller's Searching For God Knows What?  He discusses the lack of clothes in the beginning, in the garden, and how our need for clothes is a symptom of our fallenness.

But I don't think he knows ETNP, or whatever his name was. ::eek::

I really liked it, particularly all he said about the garden, and how all of our problems started there.  I thought it lost steam toward the end, but I thought most of it was excellent. I've talked a lot about the garden thing, and the related lifeboat idea, in the teen class I teach.

I haven't bought his latest yet because of the subject matter.  When you've grown up with a step-father who's still a part of your life (and who, to be honest, there has always been a bit of tension with), you can worry sometimes about things being taken wrong.  I wouldn't want him, or other members of my family, to see me reading a book about growing up without a father and think the wrong things.

This sounds like a good book for my husband.  He grew up without a father.  And from what I am hearing, it sounds like I need to add this one to my list as well.
