According to the Bible "Tithes" are suppose to go to the churchs so our ministers can live, correct?
No.. tithes were supposed to go to the tribe of Levi and consisted of items that were gained from the land that God gave the Israelites.. so a tithe could be produce, crops, cattle or money if it was a direct result of the land.
In the new testament, tithing is not part of the New Covenant.. and since we do not live on land that was promised us from God a tithe just doesn't make sense.
In the new testament we are to be cheerful givers, giving to causes that the Holy Spirit leads us to give to.. it could be your local church, an aid group or mission board, etc.
I personally, am opposed to giving to any church that has a paid pastor and a building.. but that's just how the Holy Spirit leads me. I would fully support missionaries or people who's job is solely to spread the gospel though.. on a temporary basis or ongoing basis as God leads me.
This is one of the coolest thing about the New Covenant.. individuals have the power to live as the spirit leads and we are not bound to submit to leadership except in matters of doctrine.
