Divorce due to alcohol addiction

My husband and I have been together for 17 years and 2 of them have been poisoned by his alcohol dependence. I was trying to help him all this time, but nothing’s changed and I’m losing strength. The family has always been the highest priority for me, something inviolable, once and for all further life. But I’m thinking more and more about divorce now. I decided to suggest him one of these treatment centers, which I found here addictionresource.com and if he refuses, I’ll insist on the breakup. But I can’t stop worrying. I think it’s betrayal, isn’t it?

Absolutely nothing will help unless and until he decides he needs and wants to get clean and sober.  It is only then that any help such as that provided by addition help centers will do him any good.  Some, unfortunately, never get to that point.  Some never decide that they need and want to get clean and sober.  It is an addiction.  The addict physically, and (usually) mentally and psychologically, needs the substance.  Going through some addition center won't really change much until he decides that he needs and wants it.

Sooner or later, you are going to have to decide what is best for you and whoever else, family, friends, coworkers, are involved.
