Make Your Own Wedding Vows or Use Traditional Ones?

So, did you make your own wedding vows where you had custom ones you wrote yourself or did you use the traditional ones "Promise to love, honor cherish......."

I wanted that in my first wedding.  But my ex-husband said it would sound stupid.  I'm going to have it in this time though!

I had both.  We did the traditional vows and then appended to them.  In 2 languages.  Beautiful ceremony.  Crappy marriage.

In hindsight, I wish I had a real marriage arrangement, rather than just some nice sounding fluff and traditional mumbo-jumbo.

If/when I get married again, I want to sit down and hash out exactly what it is I expect from my mate (and vice versa).

I'm thinking hard about that one.  I'm leaning towards saying it.  I just am not sure I want to say 'obey' exactly.
