God Himself has been divorced

No no no no, please, lets not go there on a Christian message board.
And why not ?
God GAVE a WRIT OF DIVORCE....so are you saying that God was lying when HE said He gave it Confused
Quote
This is so often used as justification for unbiblical divorces that it should be almost banned from marriage discussions.
What should be banned from marriage discussion is this nonsense that marriage is some absolute UNconditional covenant.
It isnt.
Quote
First, the analogy of God and Israel simply doesnt hold to a man and womans marriage, one is 2 humans, the other GOD, and a people. The dynamics of their respective relationships, even the very reason FOR the relationships are so different this comparison should never be used in this way.
But secondly, if we take things that God has done, as license for what we can rationalize doing, then gosh we can wipe off all but one family and a sampling of animals and say
"God did it"
Just as God can end a conditional covenant when it is purposefully broken by man, a spouse CAN end the conditional covenant of marriage when the other spouse is purposefully defiling it.

Quote
I know this want mentioned here in this context, but in a way it IS in this context as an analogy, and I am compelled to respond each time i see it, mainly because Ive seen WAY too much divorce encouragement and enabling based on this flawed analogy in the past.
We should never encourage frivolous divorce. But we SHOULD give ALL the facts in the matter...INCLUDING the FACT that God did give a writ of divorce to Isreal and later ended that covenant with her.
It wasnt pretty, but it happened.
As christians we should want to have ALL of the relevant data....not cower in fear of it.

Thank you for being polite in your questions. Do I believe that divorce can be forgiven? I've already stated that I do. You're assuming I'm saying something that I'm not. However at least you're being polite about it.
The bigger issue is that not every divorce filed is 'sin'.
Jesus, in context, was condemning these frivolous, for EVERY cause, divorces.
Of course frivolous divorce is sinful.
Its not sinful when a woman files for divorce after 20 years of rape and beatings.
Do you understand the difference ? Or are you stuck in two or three verses ?
