Now before a few weeks ago I've never actually had a problem with something of the category of sexual sins, but recently  during some times in the day my mind makes me really want to watch something sex related. I have never seen an actual porno, but in those moments I watched some pretty borderline stuff. I just want to know if you guys have any strategies for me when I am beginning to have these types of thoughts. I have already asked for forgiveness, but I really want this all to stop. I believe if I embargo myself from the thoughts and media of it all it will slowly get better, but I crave guidance. I beg you all to please pray for me and provide help to me.

Blessings,
Jason

Prayer said for you Jason. I think most all Christian men suffer from sinful sexual thoughts at one time or another. I once asked my father if the temptation gets any easier to avoid as you get older. He said that it gets much worse the older you get. I have found that this is true unfortunately.

Kudos for you for confessing this sin and asking others to pray for you. I hope it gets better.

Brother, I am not sure if this is true of all older men.  I agree that we live in a body of sin and death, and also, the devil still works in our minds and hearts, this testimony is true.  But, godly men, can and should think on those things that Paul exhorted us to think on:

Philippians 4:8

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Brother, it take us ruling our spirits, and not allowing certain things into our hearts: most TV programs, places where there is nudity, and many other things that I could mention, that would allow our hearts and minds an opportunity to run wild and that would allow an opportunity for our flesh to war with such things, whatever it is, we must avoid, or else, we are sinning against the wisdom of the word of God that would help us to overcome such things.  We will never escape such things, or we must leave this world, but we can minimize such activities in our minds, this we know.  1 Peter 2:11!!

It is the Lord that sent/sends us into the world and it is He that washes us from the filth that we aquire while here.

This is no liscens to sin [for what a man soweth, that shall he reap], but to continually be objected to things that prey upon the weakness of the human mind will eventually creep in and spoil the host.

With this being said, there are many scripture to help strengthen a person in such delimas, but when the senses and emotions of our physical bodies are being stroked, it is difficult to remember scripture at that moment.

I am trying to be informative and helpful.

If you are single, then refer to the apostle Pauls decree to the Corinthians in 1Cor 7 concerning the inability of a person to contain [passions], and seek the help of the Lord strengthening your inner man [spirit] to withstand in these tiimes of weakness, but you are still in a human body that has a mind all of its own and it wars against the righteousness within you.

Remember, a little folding of the hands [allowance] can bring disaster if one falls away from righteousness.

However, not everything sexual is sinful, for if we evauate everything from the standards of men, then it is mens standards that we may be breaking, not necessarily Gods.

It takes all of scripture to gain an informed knowledge of these things, for where it may seem to speak against a thing, elsewhere it may seem to speak otherwise.

Example: "There is a way that seems right unto a man, but in the end is death"

Also: "Blessed is the man in that which he allows for himself [no guilty conscience]"

We all must decide for ourselves, so seek the Lords continuance in all things.

God Bless

You speak the truth brother Red Baker. But for some of us it is harder to not allow certain things into our hearts than it is for others, me included. Satan knows our greatest weaknesses and never ceases to attack us at our weakest points. This is why Paul encourages us to -bear each others burdens- to pray for each other and help each other out. I will be glad when I do get to leave this world in that Satan cannot attack me anymore. Peace be to you.

It is my desire to increase the brethren, for iron sharpeneth iron.

The Lord said it best bro Cusley: "if you do not understand earthly things, how will you ever understand heavenly things".

It seems to me that many become captive in their struggle with the flesh and become dormant in their spiritual growth [not of their doing], for our enemy is very cunning and as stated by yourself: he knows our weakness.

We all have our faults, but we cannot allow the weakness of the flesh to prevent us, for the Lord is able to make us stand if indeed we truly wish to stand.

We may stumble in the day, but we never stop running the race, for only upon completion can we receive the crown.

Yesterday is gone and all the evil within it, but the affects of that evil upon our conscience can linger and spoil the new day.

The Lord said "Repent" of the evil and He would forgive us [7x70 a day].

We cannot allow a fault to overtake us, and sometimes they are very challenging to overcome, but if we are [spiritually] bound due to this challenge, what good are we unto the work of the holy Father.

"If salt has lost its savor, then it is to be thrown out"

Gods children in Christ are the salt of the world.

Do not allow a fault to bind the power of the Holy Spirit, for through forgiveness are we renewed day to day.

God Bless

Stay away from what causes you a problem? If you go to a movie make sure your know about the content and what is shown before seeing it. Even PG-13 can have sexual scenes. Don't go into a liquor store for any reason because they sell magazines with pornography in them. If you have secular friends (non-christians) make your views known, but walk or run away from someone holding a magazine of questionable nature. Do as Jesus did when encountering temptation. Quote scripture (so memorize some applying to this problem). Pray, fast and be accountable to a brother for support. God bless and may you have a victory over your sexual sin.

Just to give my input as a brother who also went thru many bouts with sexual obsession, temptation etc. Looking back I would tell you....examine your mind and verify if you are allowing any comprimising thought patterns. If so, practice cutting them off immediately. I learned if I open the doorway of my mind even 1 inch, that is a problem......don't get into the mindset that you can handle a little compromise. Second, find the verse that conquers the enemy and keep repeating it to God when temptation comes......I used to say this all the time to God during temptation, " Lord, every man should learn how to control his vessel in sanctification and honor." I found speaking God's word to the temptation and back to The Lord worked wonders. The word becomes more and the battle becomes less.....all by the power of the Spirit as you apply the word. Trust me, you are not missing anything in pornography or sexual movies, it is all just false imitations of what they cannot produce.....the real God honoring sex that happens between husband and wife......that is truly where the joy is and something porn actors could never have in their imitation world.

You can't just stop thinking those thoughts.  You have to replace them with something.

Read your bible 2 or 3 times a day.  I have my quiet time in the morning.  I read my daily "bible in a year" plan when I get home from work.  And often read a little more before bed.  At bed time if it's not my bible, it's a Christian book.

Spend time memorizing and meditating on scripture.  I also listen to a lot of Christian teaching podcasts.  Monday thru Friday I listen to 5 or 6 different programs every day.

Get an accountability partner.  Someone you feel comfortable talking to about these temptations.

Lastly, lots of prayer.  Pray in the morning, pray at bedtime, and pray whenever you are tempted.

Also, be careful about the TV and movies you watch.  There is a lot of suggestive material even on network stations these days.

Just don't look.

Seriously stay away from situations and things that tempt you. When you see an attractive woman, bounce your eyes off her, do not linger.

I speak as one who lived a terribly immoral life before being saved.

focus your mind on scripture:

Quote from: 1 Corinthians 6
18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Memorize that passage, when you are tempted, quote it to yourself over and over.

Jesus resisted temptation by quoting scripture, so you know it works  ::smile::

There are some very interesting suggestions here and some helpful.  I have been plagued with sexual images/fantasies since I was about 5 or younger.  I have no idea where it came from or why.  As I got older I personified it as the beast.  HOWEVER.  That never stopped me from loving God or God loving me.  It never stopped me from pursuing God in His word and personally and intimately.  I spent many hours just sitting and talking to God if you will.  I spent many hours walking and just talking to God.  I spent a lot of time thinking about sexual things too even looking at a lot of pictures.  I do wish I hadn't done that because it is better to nip it in the bud before it grows into a tree.

With that said I think that the approach that most people make is not very helpful in the end.  What do I mean?  It is easy to say, "Just stay away from those things."  Sometimes you can't.  Sometimes you didn't know it would be like that.  That's like saying, "Don't lie" or "Stay away from situations where you will lie."  Really?  I know what you mean and I use to be on that boat.  However, I've discovered something much more practical and much more helpful.  It is simply this:  Pursue God!  Make that your priority.  Don't worry about your thoughts because it would be great if we could just control them completely.  YOU CAN"T.  What you can do is train your mind to do certain things by practicing.  Instead of trying NOT to sin or do something that you deem as sin, spend your time trying TO do something else.

We forget that God loves us.  I've come to believe that God isn't concerned about the many things we've created legalistic doctrines for.  If Christ has made sin a non-issue between us and God then why not live that way.  Stop focusing on sin and focus on God.  Instead of trying to control your mind to not think sexual thoughts (good luck on that) train your mind to focus on the Kingdom of God.  WHEN the sexual thought comes respond with the Word of God and start a conversation (prayer) and the next thing you know you're not thinking sexual thought.  Hey!  That's how I got to this forum this morning.  I started thinking sexual thoughts, but instead said, "Hey.  Let me read my bible or check out an online Christian resource."  I thought of this forum, which I had visited many many moons ago and forgot about it, and here I am.

STOP focusing on sin and focus on God.  Stop focusing on how bad you think you are and just know that God loves you.  Yes I think sexual thought!  I'm human dang it.  To make matters worse, I'm a guy.  LOL.  Of course you will think of sexual thoughts.  Humans have been doing that since day zero (be fruitful and multiply.  Get it?).  Just pursue God and that way you'll go in that direction.  If you keep thinking about not thinking about sexual thoughts then guess what you'll think about?  You got it.  Sexual thoughts.  If you keep thinking about NOT sinning then you will be totally sin conscious and not experience the true love of God.

I'm not saying we should all go and sin.  Of course not.  How we do it is the issue here.  Instead of trying to not sin spend more time trying to pursue God more.  The next thing you know you'll be doing that more than sinning so to speak.  Get it?  It's a beautiful way to live with our heavenly Father.  Beautiful indeed.  While I was a sinner Christ died for me.  Ummmm.  That feels so good.  I don't have to perform for God.  I can just allow myself to be transformed by the renewing of my mind through the power of Christ (not my power).  Wow.  Someone just took a load off.  LOL.

The mind set on the Spirit of God, spiritual things is life and peace.  If it is insanely hard you might be dealing with a demonic situation, but we have died with Christ and the life that we live we live by trusting God and His perfect ability to see us through.  So is says set your mind on things above not on things of the earth.  YOU MUST CONTROL YOUR OWN MIND, NOT VICE VERSA!!!  The mind set on the flesh is a war with God and cannot have peace with Him.  So it is all there in Romans 8 and in Colossians 3:2 and in several places.  There are many ways to go about this because there is freedom to do good with God.  You can be as creative as you want as it is never a sin to defeat strongholds of evil within your own life and you admitting this shows your brethren and God that you hate this sin and want the flesh to die there.  I think you will achieve victory in time, but realize this: Be sober and vigilant because your adversary the devil walks about as a roaring lion.  Resist him, and remain steadfast in the faith knowing that the same sufferings are experienced all throughout the world by your brothers.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you and this is a promise from an apostle.  So pray for discernment and if it is revealed to you that this is demonic and is not just flesh I would urge you to get a wall of prayer to surround you and also eradicate all media that brings lust to your mind.  In time you might be able to watch something that used to bother you, but right now you are in a weakened state and need to build walls of protection and as it is written if we sow the the flesh we will of the flesh reap corruption, but if we sow to the Spirit we will reap life.  So then God is not mocked, we reap what we sow and that is the way of the Lord and always has been.  Peace to you and good day.

This is common to man.  What did Jesus do in the desert when Satan tempted him?  He quoted God's word to Satan.  This is what we have to do.  In Ephesians 6:13-17  It talks about putting on the full armor of God. (17)... and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Don't even get close to what tempts you, if you do that is a slippery slope.  find verses like  James 4:7 Resist the Devil and he will flee from you. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 The Lord is faithful, he will strengthen you and protect from the evil one.  Arm your self with God's sword.  Men do not go into battle without a sword.

Put on the full armor of God Ephesians 6:13-17  What did Jesus do when tempted in the desert?  He used his sword, the word of God to strike Satan where it counts.  In order to do battle, you need a weapon, that weapon is the sword, God's word. Memorize verses like 2 Thessalonians 3:3, & James 4:7 etc.  don't even go near that which temps you, not even close.
