ok...
they are totally sound musically, are not rude to folks who read music, and never follow the crowd.  :;):

to equate notation on the screen with clutter is inaccurate.

we obviously don't agree.

when the conversation turns to things like what we've read above, that's when it becomes nutty to me. Of course, we all have preferences, but when someone gripes about not having music out of one side of his or her mouth and then gripes about the detailed sheet music out of the other, my guess is, there's more going on there then just the need for sheet music.

Amen PD!

We should all be coming "back to the heart of worship, when it's all about" Him, "all about" Him, "Jesus. I'm sorry Lord for the things I've made it, when it's all about You, all about You, Jesus".

That just happens to quote parts of a song we sing in corporate worship. :D

For some that can read music, myself included, the staffs and notations are just clutter on the screen.  I want to lose myself in worship without worrying about if I am singing a correct part or the correct note.  I join in and follow even when I don't know the song and catch on very quickly

For me who cannot read music, it is clutter on the page and screen also. I hope that the words sung to God are for Him and not for us to sing in perfected harmony with notes. Doesn't that take away from the heart?

Seems like that may be another thing that those who don't think instruments should be used to balk about, since musical notes and staffs, etc., whatever they are, are more the focus than the heart of the words spoken.

oh, my.  i beg you to reread this thread.
the pd quote you amened does not pertain to the topic, no one here has done what he asserts...

"...but when someone gripes about not having music out of one side of his or her mouth and then gripes about the detailed sheet music out of the other..."

who spoke out of both sides of their mouth?

"Seems like that may be another thing that those who don't think instruments should be used to balk about, since musical notes and staffs, etc., whatever they are, are more the focus than the heart of the words spoken."

where was that idea in the posts?  'more the focus'?

professionaldoofus

welcome aboard, if nothing else you get my vote for most creative name!!! By the way I lead singing all the time at my church, I use the hymnal as little as possible and let it go from the heart.

my humble 2 cents

dj,

Now it seems as though you are picking at pd for picking at you for picking at what you originally were picking at.

May the circle be broken?  :;):

once you reread you'll find that what he alledges has never happened in this thread.

i don't feel uncomfortable with the powerpointeers who eschew notation, i just think they're mostly unsound musically, rude to music readers, and are follow-the-crowders.

dj
Quite an indictment dj.  Personally, those are not the reasons I prefer power point and the words on a screen.  I want to look up, and have my hands free to express my worship when I sing, and I still have a tendency to stay in tune!   :disco:
??

those who use the technology and WON'T supply available notation deserve the criticism i gave.

dj[/color]
I'm a music reader with considerable training and experience, singing, piano, violin, even symphonic experience.  I not only do not consider it rude for "powerpointers" to eschew notation, I prefer it.  If I need notation, I grab the book.

You GO, JMG! Now, that's what I'm talkin about. When I lead, the page numbers are up there for that very purpose. The screen has inspiring images related to the theme or the song and if people feel the need to look at the music, there is a book right in front of them. Seems that way almost everyone is appeased. Geez...appeased...sad ain't it?

and you said..

"...but when someone gripes about not having music out of one side of his or her mouth and then gripes about the detailed sheet music out of the other..."

...so who spoke out of both sides of their mouth?

"Seems like that may be another thing that those who don't think instruments should be used to balk about, since musical notes and staffs, etc., whatever they are, are more the focus than the heart of the words spoken."

where was that idea in the posts?  prove your assertion.

you're not being truthful.
