what ur opinion on the perception of beauty?  What is your definition of beauty? No one can look like a barbie dull or like a woman on the cover of a magazine who have been photo shop to look perfect. It is quite sad that girls and women try to live up to that fake image with dieting and exercising.

Hi, and welcome to gracecentred, yes, but as a woman I realize somebody ( many) will always be prettier, thinner, smarter. The way things are.

Some of the women on the magazines aren't even the kind that most men like.  Perfect to women that run these magazines isn't necessarily what men like.  Women tend to beat themselves up in this area without completely even understanding men.

Also most magazine pictures and adverts have had a lot of airbrushing and so arent actually real images. I stay away from magazines llike that.

We have a famous lady in the UK who is about 60 now, She used to be a model in the 60's. She is being used to promote a skin beauty cream. In her photos for this skin treatment promotion she looks about 35 but in photos of her in day to day life she looks really really old, in fact older than her 60 years. With no make up,special  lighting or airbrushng she looks like the other persons grandmother. I just couldnt believe that it was the same person. it was shocking and really deceptive.

The Bible does say that beauty is vain.beauty on the outside doesnt last, but real beauty comes from the inside out. I thank God that he sees the inner beauty as well as what we look like on the outside. The Holy Spirit is the greatest beauty treatment we can ever have and we dont have to spend any money to get it.

Beauty may only be skin deep and fade....

But ugly goes to the bone.

So long as you aren't wider than you are tall

So long as you do understand and use some personal hygene.

So long as you have a personality that is pleasant some of the time...

you ain't ugly.

Intelligence and kindness go a LONG way for me. "Good looks" can stimulate the flesh, but those highly charged emotions fade away pretty quickly, and two "good-looking" people can easily and quickly begin to loathe each other.

Indeed, certain things like basic health and hygene are important and not to be ignored. But with that as a given, I wish that we could be more concerned with developing our character rather than developing a set of washboard abs.

Very true, It is so sad to see women staving themselves to be like the women on the magazine cover because most men are not intrested in those types of women.

Do you think so?. In my experience most men do actually prefer slim women.(not talking about the ultra skinny boyish looking catwalk models here). After all how many average or overweight women do you see in beauty magazines, and I bet there arent any in porn magazines either.
I thnk that is why many women struggle with their weight, as they feel ugly and fat unless they are a certain size that gets them noticed. Its very very sad.

Kim Kardashian would be an example of a woman who isn't exactly "slim" but a lot of men would find attractive.

Some men do like the big ladies, they call them BBW's.

Now I didn't have a clue as to who it was you were talking about...

So I used google.

And where I really didn't see any pics that I could post that would be appropriate for this forum...needless to say she is larger than most models.

She is busty and has some "junk in the trunk".

She ain't exactly physically ugly either...or unfit. (you can tell from most of her pics where she is almost ready for a doctor's exam)

Most models look like a coathanger...stick thin and anorexic...kinda like a crackhead...ain't my thing.

I can see why she is popular today...crackheads are out...curves are in.

That comment always makes me think of poop  I agree  No worries

Ahem. Anyway.

Yeah. If you look at images of what's considered beautiful, they tend to change from decade to decade. I can usually, fairly accurately tell you what decade a picture of a woman is from, (over the last century) just by the way she's portrayed in the image. Why? Because ideas of beauty change and women tend to style themselves accordingly. A woman who would have been considered a beauty queen in the twenties or thirties could be considered a bit boring now. Not all, but the ideal was different. Same with many different decades. If a woman has a prettyish face and one that suits different hairstyles she can generally survive the changes. But some 'looks' just don't very well, because the look fits a specific ideal.

Yes sorry I dont know what she looks like. Yes I know there are a small number of men who are attracted to large women but they are rare(at least I have never known one) From what I have seen in the uK men tend to like women sort of size 10-12 ish (which I think is size 8-10 there.) below that is pretty skinny, and above that is too large. The sad thing is that apparently the average size of a women here is now size 16(14 there) and in the USA I think it is bigger than that,so that means  by far the majority of women fall  above that size that is usually desirable for most men.

My perception on beauty is that it starts with the heart. Your heart has to be right, only by the love of God can that happen then it radiates to the outside. There are many people who are not pretty by the world standards but by their love of God and their godly ways, they are VERY beautiful.
But real beauty starts from the inside out and beauty is being your best and looking your best for yourself and to please God. Not anyone else. There are beautiful women of every skin color, shape, size and type and those women are ones that care about their bodies and love the temple that God has given them. I'm sorry guys, this goes for you too. :)

This is a huge and very complex question. Many many facets enter into it.

Attraction starts from the outside and works in. So physical beauty is what I'll address.

The problem is that America is a fat country. Take a walk down almost any street and you'll see more overweight people than people who are in shape.

For me beauty is someone who is in shape not necessarily skinny but in good physical condition. No more that about 20 pounds over ideal weight.  Any woman in shape will look better that any woman who is not in shape.

Symetrical features. Long hair. Not too much makeup. Not a smoker (smoking ages the skin far too fast). No obviously artificial parts.

The barbie doll look is grotesque. Real people aren't shaped that way.  I tend to prefer petite over tall and wholesome over glamorous.

It's sad that more people don't eat a proper diet and exercise more.   As a nation we are obese and we eat probably twice as much a day as we need to.

(In the spirit of honest disclosure I am about 20#s over my ideal weight. But I'm working on it. Eating better and exercising more to get back to a sensible weight for my height)
