Just wondering who is truthful and will tell there status. Just leave name and status from the poll. You will not be made fun of or condemned just for wondering. If you feel the need to comment then keep it fruitful.

I am Church of Christ have been all my life. Dad was a preacher in the church. I am just a bench warmer.

I don't want to sound too technical but I am a member of Christ's church so I believe technically I am a member of the church of Christ, but as far as walking into a building that says church of Christ on the building when I go for corporate worship, then no I am not a member of that denomination.  Smile

Memmy,
My dear sis you say you were of the denomination but now you are not the thing is if you were then you would know that it is not a denomination. Just joking sis.

Okay maybe I should have worded that different but you got the ideal correct anyway. I should have said sofCoC.

My mother was baptized when she was small, and her mother and her mother's mother were not long after.  They weren't particularly religious before that.  My great-grandmother had run a pretty wild bar for a little while, I've been told.  My grandmother's father's parents came over from Ireland and, given their sympathies, I assume were Catholic (they didn't care for the British or Ulster), but didn't practice after coming to America.

God doesn't want you being a bench warmer, He wants you active in His Kingdom. He wants you to operate in the gifts of the Spirit to do His will.

At least fourth generation CoC on my mother's side, not sure before that.
That side of the family were Scots-Irish immigrants about a generation before the Civil War, like the Campbells.

Stone-Campbell at least back to 1825 and 1838 on dad's side and 1848 on mom's side. My fifth-great-grandfather on dad's side, Joseph Ijames was the gr-grandfather of Bro. EH Ijams, former Pres. of David Lipscomb University. EH grew up in Laud. County and his first preaching job was here.  His gr-grandfather, my fifth-great-grandfather, Joseph Ijames was a trustee of a Stoneite congregation in Lauderdale County in 1825. My gr-gr-great grandmother Mary Jones Freeman was baptized January 21st, 1838 in Lauderdale County, AL by former Stoneite Elder WH Wharton and my gr-gr-gr-great grandfather Rufus Jackson Nance was baptized in 1840 at a protracted meeting held in Russellville, Franklin Co., AL, by Elder Tolbert Fanning. So does that make me a "Campbellite's Campbellite"?

And I suspect when Bill says he's just a "bench warmer" he's being modest.

Pax.

Bill holds no office but he has lead the singing and prayers and waited the table and taught a class and delivered a sermon  on occasion. He does what he is called to do but as said still waiting to see what his gift is and at the time does does a good job at warming the bench. He is also good at greeting but is wishing for more greater gifts that he has yet to get.

He takes part in visiting the sick and nursing homes and such and mowing of the grounds and up keep on the building but yet still feels as nothing more than a bench warmer. He thinks that there is something more he could and wishes to be doing but it is just not there yet.
