Quail Springs CoC, IM worship and the attacks start!

This is getting much play on the Stone-Campbell list.  I wonder what your thoughts are.  Mine are totally negative; nowhere in the NT is there command/inference/example of one congregation "marking" one of another congregation.

I get tired of this too.   Why don't they also add "Though they do not use IM, they will of course still spend an eternity in hell because they ..... and they don't ....."

I can't believe this article in my old hometown newspaper.  If I owned the paper I would have refused to run this.  What a great example for the unbelievers in OKC and the surrounding area.

I have a couple of comments/questions.  I am not from a CoC background.  Is there a book in the Bible you  abbreviate Jho?  I saw this reference in the ad several times.  I'm confused.

I do attend a Mennonite church, which has a worship team, with keyboard, guitar, drums, and bass.  There are very few Mennonite Churches that don't use musical instruments nowadays.  Those which don't, don't believe those who do are lost and going to hell.  The decision to use or not use musical instruments is based more on tradition/preference.
As an outsider looking in, this whole issue appears  rather sick to me.

With so many references to the use of musical instruments in the OT, I just don't get it.
How can "making a joyful noise" with all of those instruments listed in the Psalms be a sin?
So, your supposed to speak and sing spiritual songs and Psalms that speak of using instruments, but then not actually use them?

Do we wonder why coC's are getting smaller?

I know that they are not all like this, but if the ones who are not, don't start speaking up, who knows what will happen to the credibility of this sect?

I find it quite ironic that they use Galatians 5:4 when what it is saying is in direct opposition of what they speak about. "You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace"

Amazing, but all too familiar at the same time.

I still find coc doctrine to be biblically sound for the most part.   It is not the doctrine per se that is the real problem, but in the judgemental attitude that arises from being "right"  while everybody else is "wrong" ( if that makes sense)

"Jho" must be a typo for "Jn."?

I long to walk with Jesus above all this type stuff.

Also,
1.  the "prime directive" has led to such; unity movement has become purity movement.

2.  semantics?  "sing" = "sing only"?!
          cf. "faith" "faith only" hullabaloo!!
          anyone ever do a serious study on "ado" in LXX and NT?

3.  mechanical vs. spiritual view of "Jesus-thing"?!!
          it is not about the X,Y,Z axes of all this; but rather another dimension!
          it is faith, love, the HS; not 5acts, 5steps, yada yada yada

I long to walk with Jesus above all this type stuff.

My conviction is that such actions are no different, and have no less damage to the cause of Christ than the brothers Paul scolded and told to stop suing one another in public courts.  This is taking a family matter to the court of public opinion, and is, I believe, as sinful.

As to Quail Springs' decision, I believe they are an autonomous congregation, are they not?  Or did that principle just somehow get temporarily suspended?

Jho is a common abbreviation for John.

My bigest complaint is the reliance on silence.  If we truly speak where the Bible speaks and are silent where the Boble is silent [which I believe is indeed a sound biblical principle] , then we would not be adding commandments [i.e. speaking] where God didn't see the need for them [i.e. he was silent].

I love Mark Henderson.  He's taught some really great truths on biblical leadership at Pepperdine.  I think its great that they are trying something new for a different assembly of new people that will hear the gospel for the first time.

I am praying for Quail Springs and their new endeavors for Jesus.

If you don't like it, don't go there...like James said, aren't they autonomous?  Why is it anyone else's business?

This was a year ago BTW.  They have had an instrumental service for a year now.
