Lively:  It is too bad that many elders in the brotherhood have not done the work they espired to do...  they have not guarded against false teachers and have not maintained true church discipline as they should have...  they have allowed false teachers to come in and not spare the flock... and when they seen it happen, they did not take the disciplinary action necessary to protect the flock...

True, but things are changing, and now congregations are more open to truth instead of just protecting the status quo.  Open, honest teachers are becoming more prevelant, and the closed-ear "old Paths" types are losing influence.

True, the Spiritual Butterknife no longer cuts through the marrow of those who have finally began to do just what we have been asked to do, study for ourselves to see if these things are so.   We do pray that the elders will continue to mature in their faith as they return to studying the scripture instead of "Why I am a Member of the Church Of Christ"

Lively:  from what I have seen, the closed eyes and closed ears continue... I have been teaching on line for years now... and rarely ever see one open their eyes and specifically ask me what shall I do and allow me to show them where to find a church in their area to help them...

Why does the term "blind guides" occur to me right now?

It seems that at some point, the moderators of this forum decided to limit the impact of these Spiritual Sword postings by moving them to a less visible location.  That's a shame.

The current issue, themed "The Responsibility of Elders" is a study of scripture regarding the eldership and it's work, as outlined in scripture.  Very well done, too.  As such, it belongs in the Theology forum, where it was originally posted.

Yet someone keeps moving these threads to a location where it's visibility is quite limited.

Censorship takes many forms, and that's what seems to be happening here.

It's not right.

but seriously folks....

Have you noticed that all topics relating specifically to Church of Christ issues, including those actually started by moderators are being moved here?  This is possibly the least valid persecution complex I've ever seen.

For one thing, this thread was only created in order to advertise something, which is generally frowned upon by the adminstration of this forum, regardless of what it is.  This is really a form of spam.

Most threads started for the purpose of advertising a magazine would be removed altogether for that very reason.

" a form of spam"?  Surely you're not serious.

The reactions over the years regarding these postings in the past have been about the contents of The Spiritual Sword.  No one ever considered it spam.  No one.  Ever.

This is just a new idea someone came up with to justify dragging this subject to an area where it would not be seen.

This assertion is based on a patently untrue premise.

For you to make a statement like this is a strong indication you really haven't read The Spiritual Sword at all.

Why do liberals always seek to suppress free speech?

If you want to post a new topic on a particular issue, you are more than welcome to do so.

If you want to post the text of one of those articles (with proper citation and permission of the author/magazine of course) so we can discuss it, you're more than welcome to do so.

So, this business about suppressing free speech is silly.

The OP only advertises a magazine.  A table of contents doesn't give us much to talk about without the substance of those articles.  It's not a topic starter for a discussion forum.

I think the problem with this quarterly post is that there is no content.  The SS has chosen to make their material available on to those who pay for it.  That is why these posts are correctly considered spam.  One person is here to peddle this information for a price, otherwise, it would be available for all to read without the requirement to pay for the content.  It is no different from any other advertisement for hair products or vitamins that require payment to obtain the goods.

Actually, I remember the "advertising" concern over the years.  You responded then as well as I recall.   Without the content, it is advertising and they have given you a break that they afford few others.  You should be thankful.
