Greetings in Christ from sunny Texas,

How many of us in the churches of Christ are paying any attention to what is currently happening in our world?  What should our role be?  What can our role be?
When is the last time you heard a "basic" first principle lesson from the pulpit? Watching the show and eating popcorn

As a member, can you tell others why we do not use the instrument in worship?

So, pick one  Juggling

The number 1 responsibility of a Christian is to spread the good news of Jesus.  Has nothing to do with IM or so called first principles.

The number one responsibility? To allow God to transform you; to be humble before Him. Out of being transformed comes mercy, acting justly, divine love for others, and telling others about Him.

I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was going to blame you.

...to love mercy, act justly, and walk humbly with God

Sometimes you just have to let it go.

The number 1 responsibility of a Christian is to spread the good news of Jesus.  Has nothing to do with IM or so called first principles.

Lively:  The principles is what is to be taught...  Before one can more on to perfection, they need to understand the principles..  what are these principles we must first understand?  see the underlined...

Heb 6:1  Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Heb 6:2  Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Heb 6:3  And this will we do, if God permit.

the reason for these principles is to lay a foundation to build from... every master builder needs a sound foundation to build from...  otherwise things are not level and plum...  the further one builds on a foundation which is not true... the greater the errors as he builds upon a foundation which is not true...  once you have the correct understanding of these things, then one can move on unto perfection knowing the foundation he is building upon is true...  if one makes a mistake building upon a true foundation,  he never has to tear down the foundation...  its like a home one works on... you may want to remodel a home and take out some windows... its easy to replace some windows then to have to tear up the foundation and have to start a total rebuild of a new home.

Hroberson, greetings in Christ from sunny Texas,

you stated---The number one responsibility? To allow God to transform you; to be humble before Him. Out of being transformed comes mercy, acting justly, divine love for others, and telling others about Him.

My observation is that sometimes folks make two assumptions here--

The "idea" is to do so on God's terms
The idea is to cross the t's and dot the i's

One who is going to live a transformed life will have both and will want to share the buried treasure with others.

The commission of Jesus was to preach the gospel: those who believed were to be discipled by baptism and teaching what Jesus had commanded. That includes the "prophecies" which He made more perfect.

What is the major duty of a DISCIPLE? What is a DISCIPLE? A disciple is a Student of Christ.
He attends ekklesia or synagogue where the command of the elders (only) is to teach that which has been taught and refute those who oppose the truth.

The duties of a Christ including service is NOT womething that takes place during the performance of sermons of songs.

A musical instrument is defined as a "machine for doing hard work mostly in making war and creating the shock and awe of religious spectacle." That is defined as the Lying Wonders which includes all of the HYPOCRITIC arts and crafts.  Making music which is derived from mystery meant "to make the lambs dumb before the slaughter."  There is nothing in religionism more WORKS INTENSIVE and therefore LEGALISTIC than using professional-grade musicians. They have to REHEARSE their mediating role and yea even have MAKE UP STAFF. Tee Hee.

Jesus defined the Scribes and Pharisees (writers and preachers of that which was NOT written) as hypocrites pointing to speakers, singers and instrument players.

The INSTITUTE stealing from the DESTITUTE in both the ekklesia and synagogue DISmissed themselves and did not exercies a COMMUNAL authority over the DISCIPLES.  Disciples don't go to worship service which always pointed to the legalistic and profane: they go to what the Campbells called A SCHOOL OF CHRIST where worship was READING AND MUSING the Word of God. That was the direct command of Jesus for the Church in the wilderness which EXCLUDED vocal or instrumental rejoicing. Even Simple Simon soon learns with some head knocks NOT to sing and clap and act like girls when the LORD is in His Holy Temple (Me) teaching me.

The gospel means "come to me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I WILL GIVE YOU REST." The burden in Hebrew and Greek is the "churchy type songs" highly perfected to ENCHANT and do mind control. The word REST is a highly dedicated word meaning STOP the speaking, singing, playing instruments.

We have to go OUTSIDE the massed multitudes to find Jesus and suffer reproaches with Him.

The GOSPEL had as a primary goal to remove the CROOKED RACE from off our backs: that points to the MEN now acting like CHILDREN piping trying to force everyone to sing and dance.  The CROOKED concept points to the drinking and music symposium where singing and playing instruments was really a battle of the talented--just like the silly contest of SANGING MY PARTS THE LOUDEST AND BESTEST.

The GOSPEL was not the gospel of the CROSS ONLY or JESUS ONLY: the gospel was the GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM of Christ which is the CHURCH of Christ. Christ is the "king set over us" and not a mass of staff infection.

Paul never hinted of just PREACHING CHRIST and Him crucified: for godness sakes any competent elder and MOST older ladies could do that in a few minutes and minister to YOU by making YOU a cake.

Tell me why you should preach JUST CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED.

Jesus already did that.

And when he "crossed the t's" he did it in a big way.

Peter said that Jesus had FURTHER EXPOUNDED the prophecies which define in great detail the nature of the future kingdom which outlaws selling the free water of the Word (Isaiah55), outlaws seeking our own pleasure and outlaws SPEAKING OUT OWN WORDS.

Peter sad that Jesus had certified and clarified these PROPHECIES and that this defines what we should GIVE HEED TO (the only worship word) until the Day Star Arises in our heart.

He MARKED as a false teacher those who do not teach that which has been certified by the miracles of Jesus Christ and the miracles of the Apostles as Hid agents.

So, if Jesus did it all and paid it all, then whe OWE only love.  Jesus paid the temple tax and said that SONS of the king do NOT pay taxes. Paul outlawed the "law of giving" but encouraged that those who prospered help the DESTITUTE or poor. The POOR in that context is something like STREET PEOPLE.

Zoonance, greetings in Christ from sunny Texas,

Actually the number is much higher than what one might want to think or believe--Just get away from the very large churches and that becomes clear. Amen!

The topic was the number one responisibility.  It is spreading the good news.   No one but a legalist would contend that it is teaching against IM.

Lively:  Spreading the good news is also a direct commandment to all Christians...  but before one can run off and teach others, he first has to have a the right understanding of the principles he is to teach....

So a Christian has to have an education before he can tell others about Jesus?  In otherwords you believe they have to be brainwashed with your understanding of how church should be done. Funny how folks ran out immediately in the first century and told others what Jesus had done for them.

It is very simple Christ came to remove the stain of sin on all who have faith in Him.  He then tells us to Love one another John15.  He does no tell us to question and deny that any are His children except those who accept our understanding and pratices.

Lively:  Absolutely...  Jesus spent time with his apostles before he left them and sent them into all the world... he did have a limited commission with then while he was here too, where he sent them two by two into the cities he was going to visit ahead of time...  but he had already taught them...  and for the great commission, he sent them the Holy Spirit to teach them as well...  we also read of many false teachers who have gone out as well...

2Pe 2:1  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

1Ti 1:3  As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

2Ti 2:2  And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

2Ti 2:24  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

Heb 5:12  For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

Joh 6:45  It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
