« on: Fri Nov 10, 2017 - 09:13:41 »

I have been using a feather  duster to clean this computer...  but  in this house with  8 children,

the dirt  is always there.........  and  I can not seem to reach it all  ... plus  the screen ?????

It says not to use  wet thing ?    So  when we moved  the screen got  a lot of  stuff on it and I cant

figure out   how to get it off.........  smudges?    Any ideas  !   Thank You

Turn the screen off and clean it with a damp cloth and then dry off any excess moisture. That's the method that I've always used with good success.

grams, that's something I've never done - clean my computer screen with a feather duster. The visual image of you doing that gave me a big smile.  ::smile:: ::huggingyou::

In 1 Timothy, it is outlined that only women can clean.

But it's culturally correct for you to clean in this day and age.  ::crackup::

Well,  you  have to know  we did not have a computer  till our children were gone... Did not have

the money  and I do not think it was  there  like now  back  maybe 35 years ago.

but now  living  in a house with   8  grand children   ............  a big  difference.

I could  clean and dust and sweep    twice a day..................    ::juggle::

Never ends grams, we have our Granddaughter living with us and she's into everything, to the point that we've had to section parts of the open concept floor plan to keep her at bay. Cleaning takes a back seat to safety and it seems like the cleaning never ends.

Well,  I have never seen  children like  my grand children  here that is , the other ones were better.

with  8  children  I guess  my daughter in law has a hard  time.   But  as I  brought  my children up

I got after them  right away  and the  others  should help each other ........ but  not here  if they drop some thing its there  for some time......  they do not put things away    so when company will be coming
they  are all pushed to  clean it up.....    and living  in the farm area  with  no side walks around.
Even more  dirt  and of course  they do not  rub or wipe the feet,  " shoes'  when coming in."
and a open door  allows a lot of bugs in ,  etc........etc.........  I am learning  to live with it  after a couple of years now........    hard  for me  because  every one  told me  years ago  I am neat,  a place for every thing  and ever thing in  its place....     and I  only had  3 children..

Grams, has your son and daughter-in-law figured out what is causing all these grand kids?

You can buy little kits for cleaning screen that consist of a little brush with very soft bristles (for initial dusting) and a spray & special cloth for cleaning.

If you have a tower it's also a good idea to occasionally take the side off and vacuum the inside - especially the heat-sink over the processor. Some months ago I was having overheating problems. When I looked inside the dust clogging up the heat-sink was like a piece of felt! .

The basic computer with all the electronics, hard disc etc comes in two basic shapes:
 - low and flat - the type you probably have if you put the screen on top
 - tall and thin, often called a tower.

mommydi

I  use  the  duster  because  its  quick and  easyer  for me.... before  we moved here   I  did not have to
clean  every day............  and some times  I could clean  over here twice a day.

I did not know you are not supposed to use  wet things.......... I   did just  use a dry cloth......

With  so many children   you cant  imagine  how quick things get dirty......

I have the  original   box  below  the  screen  under a shelf..........  that is    about  a foot and a half tall,
and   maybe  six  inc.  wide......

At my age,  I am learning  more then I need  ........... But  family comes first.. !

I found something, by accident, to take those pesky finger prints off the computer screens.

I was sitting here cleaning my reading glasses that accumulate tons print and sometimes food...( no comment)... with one of those ZEISS Lens Cleaning Wipes that come in the single foil packages because I have plastic lens that are coated and these are totally safe and will never scratch.

Whatever the solution is it evaporates almost immediately.

So I looked over at the screen here... and of course,  I say many, many fingerprints because this is a laptop.

So I opened a fresh wipe and gave it a try.

Small miracle as most of the prints just vanished without applying pressure at all.

Then I opened a second wipe and the screen now looks all shiny and new, like the first day I got this one 3 or 4 years ago.
