IBM Thinkpad Problem
« on: Thu Dec 07, 2006 - 22:44:39 »
Hello I've been having problems with my IBM ThinkPad380XD. ::frustrated::I have to keep restarting it over and over and I can't get anywhere on the desktop because it locks up  which causes me to have to turn it off by the on/off button.Cant log in or out go into the internet not even going into properties to see what's wrong. Does anybody have or has had an IBM Thinkpad and has experienced the same problem.Just curious on how this can fixed  without me trying to buy the items to go inside the computer::pondering::

Starla,

Sounds like a virus.   Can you run a virus scan?

A friend just had a similar sounding problem and it turned out his hard drive was slowly failing.  It would run extremely slowly, like it was bogged down, and then would just freeze.  But I'd definitely run the virus scan first if you can (his laptop couldn't even do that).

It could be many things.  A virus, bad hardware, etc.

Can you get into safe mode?

If you can get it into safe mode and it runs fine, it maybe be corrupted drivers.

I can't get into the internet nor put any other kind of antivirus software on the computer because of what i had mentioned earlier I can't get around on the desktop because it locks up ::frustrated:: in other words I can't do anything except trying to get it in safe mode.It will work in safe mode but I can't get on the internet nor install any kind of software.  ::tossingcomputer::

If you can get into safe mode you may have bad drivers.

Do you have a restoration CD for your laptop?

I would recommend getting into safe mode, saving what you can onto a USB flash drive, and then restart with your restoration cd in the cd drive, and run the option to format the hard drive and re-install the software.

Are you talking about the restoration CD that comes with the computer?I had one and the last time I used it,I tried uploading it onto the computer so the problem would be fixed.Nothing showed up from the CD and I still continued to have that problem with the ThinkPad.And I can't ask for a restoration CD from the IBM company because my warranty expired.I am so very stuck in this problem I feel like waiting till I get enough information technology skills so I can fix this computer myself.I believe I may have to get a new motherboard replaced but I am not sure how much do they cost for the IBM Thinkpad.
