OK, here is the update on what happened.
I took the computer to Office Depot because they said it was free to check it out and clean it.
The kid... cause that is what he is LOL... checked it by taking the cover off and then after
trying the on off button a few times declared that he could take it apart and check every wire looking for the problem, and that it would likely run around $300.00.
This is a 5 year old computer.
So I said no.
He then checked the harddrive on a laptop there and it was still ok, so he copied all the files from that to
a flash drive.....
So at least I have that, and the cost for all of what he did came to $65 ish.
I took the flash drive and my hard drive back home and left the computer with them to dispose of...
That was $5 of the $65.
Now... I do not know what I should do about replacing it.
Do I want another desk top OR do I want a laptop and use a docking station so I can still use my
big monitor?
In addition... what brand do I want?
I do not need a lot of bells and whistles as I use my PCs for emails, forums like this, creating letters and documents... some picture storage.. so I likely only need a word product?

??
But it has to connect to my printer... ( An HP) and neither of my other two laptops would. And I had
a real professional try that one before I replaced my printer.
Any suggestions....?
In addition... since the thing will only last 4 to 6 years, do I even need a good one? Maybe an el-cheepo
like Acer?
The thought of spending hundreds on something that wont last all the time really bothers me.
And yes, with the set up in the house I need the 3.
