They are out there listening to us
« on: Tue Mar 20, 2018 - 12:23:41 »
Been wondering about this for a while.

Here is what happened yesterday:

I was sitting at therapy with mom waiting to go in and told her that the doc told me today that getting the shots in my knee of
Euflexa ( imitation chicken alpha lipolic acid) was fine but best to always avoid cortisone because cortisone is not good for
osteoporosis... which I have....

Anyway... she was called in for her treatment  and I pulled my phone out to check emails and the very first one was
titled... How Doctors Diagnose Osteoporosis.... ??????

I have had this happen on the computer, where things just pop into emails or ads pop up over some keyword that may have been discussed. I handled that by taping over the  camera and mic on there, 2 layers of masking tape and a layer of duct tape....
but this is the first cell thing  that I have noticed.

I do understand that when you do a search all gloves are off and it is open season for targeted ads.

I will not get an Alexa because they are always listening there, and have heard that some TVs can pick up what s said, even when off....

But am wondering how wide spread this invasion of pivacy is?

LOL, maybe I should start a juicy conversation and let the machines go wild...  rofl

Any suggestions out there?

So you think there is someone out there watching what you do and what you say?

It's more likely your location is tracked via mobile and the office you were visiting.  I know Home Depot and businesses of that nature will track your location, even to specific departments within the store, but it certainly isn't from my voice or my phone camera as it happens without taking my phone out of my pocket.

Probably a bit worse with Android devices than Apple due to the embedding of Google, but I'm not positive of that.

I'm always experiencing weird coincidences like that.

One of the strangest-

My sister came to town and we went clothes shopping. She picked out a very pretty top at Nordstrom Rack and purchased it. I bought a pair of blue sunglasses. That afternoon, when I got home, as soon as I booted up my computer, a Nordstrom ad popped up with the exact top my sister had just purchased - even the same color. I took a screenshot of it and sent it to her. Spooky weird!

Well, I was in the waiting room of the therapy department of the one hospital branch.

I do know that until I placed tape over my laptops camera and mic that I would constantly get pop up ads and emails related to some verbal conversation I was having.... That now has stopped.

I can do nothing about what happens when I search something...

Like I was looking up Dearfoam ladies slippers yesterday or the day before and this AM came an entire page of Dearfoams in an email from Amazon.

That is fine... and expected... but even what happened to mommydi is odd.

The deep state knows that you supported Donald Trump.  They are looking for anything now.  Be very careful.

You too can have cheerful thoughts during Lent.  Steak on a Friday helps.

44.8% of the worlds population own computers with more than 3 billion using the internet. That would certainly require a pretty big staff to monitor Rella et al's activity at the therapy department.

I know that sounds ridiculous, but figure this; even if the watchdog group employed one million people, that would make each employee responsible for 3000 users, if each employee worked 16 hours per day they could watch each computer for a touch less than 20 seconds. Enter the time-frame to connect to the target computer, now we're down to maybe 5 seconds, and if that individual is away from their machine that would be a wasted attempt.

Last Friday I had a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit at McDonalds, for lunch.

Seems reasonable, but there need not be a human component in the listening.

After all, we have Siri, Cortana, and Alexa able to respond to human questioning.

We also have ONLY machines able to understand a statement, or ask a question, so far as they are programmed. You know this if you have ever tried to call the utililty companies, with the phone/internet being the worst.  It is so difficult to get to a real person.

There is no reason why a machine cannot monitor and then relate topic to another machine.

That is not too far fetched.

But I do hope you are right.

I tried talking to my computer like you and mommydi, but it would not bring up what i was talking about.  I think it's because I was not on the Trump Train.

Girl, my favorite breakfast item at McDonalds is a bacon, egg, and cheese McGriddle. Haven't had one in a long time, though.

I don't like it that everywhere I go, just as soon as I arrive at a location, restaurant, grocery store, etc., the Google Maps app chimes up and wants me to rate the place and take pictures. It happens even if I am just nearby the place at a stop light.

I'll have to put up with it because I am not going to go in and change the settings. I like the GPS helps too much.  ::smile::

Maybe your computer just doesn't like you?

In all seriousness... as you are talking to those around you about specific things.... and on the phoone about specific things.... such as items you are looking to buy or need.... start paying attention to the ads and such that come on the screen as well as the junk emails for specials on what you have been talking about.

It will happen cause I am talking to more and more that it is.

Me too. I have tracking turned off even though "they" still can track the cell even if it is off.

I keep my GPS and location services on all the time but that's just due to getting the most out of the services I use.

Breakfast, lunch or dinner for me....

Either bacon , egg, and cheese or sausage , egg and cheese... but needs to be biscuits. I get baco when eating there and sausage at home. Reason... bacon seems crisper there, and if not I can complain.

They make them so light and fluffy.

And of course their coffee... of which I am in love with.

If I get there for breakfast.... I try once a week, usually Wed. AM... though not today with the snows... ( I hate snow)... I get them made with egg whites only.
I like that flavor a hair better.... on those sandwiches and better for the cholesterol. But they only serve the egg whites only for breakfast, not later in the day

You're worried about the possibility of "someone" listening to your voice but you eat that poison?  ::crackup::

Mommydi, do you have Luby's Cafeteria in Oklahoma? Ours in West Texas closed a few years back. Last week we were in San Marcos, Texas and saw a Luby's on I-35. We almost caused a 10 car pile up trying to get to it.  ::clappingoverhead::

It is not that I worry about someone listening.... I just am tired of getting 50 to 60 emails every morning when I get up... and now the added texts coming too often from unknown people.... and a lot of stuff that should have gone to spam that manages to make it
to the main email... much of which is from being overheard.... or a search... between mom and me.  ::nodding::

As to
but you eat that poison?

That is spoken like someone who has never tasted it....

Poison?????????? Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! What a way to go

Our cafeterias are all defunct in the Tulsa area, but I don't know about the rest of the state. We used to have Luby's, Furr's, and Piccadilly, but they're all gone now. The last one was a Furr's and they closed up a couple of years ago.
What'd you eat at Luby's? I used to love fried cod with a big dollop of tartar sauce.

Absolutely, the fried cod with tartar sauce and mashed potatoes with brown gravy, and the cucumber salad, and jalapeno cornbread. I didn't have room for the chess pie though.
 ::readytoeat::

It was "almost" comparable to Pappadeaux's in that I was anticipating how good it was going to be and jealous that we didn't have a Luby's any longer!
