WND says Win 10 spies on us.

An article from World Net Daily:

Windows 10 spies on emails, images, credit cards, more

Americans are still waiting for a resolution to the controversy that erupted when it was discovered that the National Security Agency was spying on everyone’s telephones – lawsuits still are pending and Congress is working on making changes to the law.

Now they’re learning that while the NSA was collecting telephone data, the newest version of the ubiquitous Windows software, version 10, is watching everything that’s on their computer.

“From the moment an account is created, Microsoft begins watching. The company saves customers’ basic information – name, contact details, passwords, demographic data and credit card specifics,” explains a new report from the online Newsweek.

“But it also digs a bit deeper,” the report says.

“Other information Microsoft saves includes Bing search queries and conversations with the new digital personal assistant Cortana; contents of private communications such as email; websites and apps visited (including features accessed and length of time used); and contents of private folders,” the warning explains.

“Furthermore, ‘your typed and handwritten words’ are collected.’”

All of the warnings come from the company’s software privacy statement, which includes the statement that Microsoft collects information “to provide you a personalized user dictionary, help you type and write on your device with better character recognition, and provide you with text suggestions as you type or write.”

This isn't paranoia, I've actually had a bit of experience with Win 10 snooping on other partitions and analyzing the data in other OSs. I wrote it off as part of the technical preview program but apparently nothing has changed upon the official release. OTOH, I highly doubt they'll be looking into personal information such as banking and private messages, but the fact that the potential is there is enough to scare off many people.

And it sounds just like the kind of thing NSA would love to have a back door into.

Not surprising given  that google now tracks and saves your location...allegedly so you can remember where you were at specific times.

At  least with google you can go into your account and disable the feature.  I think I'll be holding off a little on my Windows 10 update until  they allow you to opt out (assuming they ever will).

I have Windows 7 on an old machine, I won't upgrade because it is too old.  I have Linux Mint Mate 17.2 on a desktop, and work computers with Windows 7 Pro.

I was going to try Androidx86 on the desktop, but it wasn't recognizing my peripherals.

I have tried a few different distros, I liked the Zorin Ubuntu clone its look changer.

Okay.... this may be correct. And beyond.

Yesterday my mom mentioned she had put on special socks to see if they would help with her swollen ankles... and I asked her if she was referring to her Tommy Copper ones.

I asked her as I was sitting with this laptop on, and I have just put W10 on this cause I hate w8.1.

What I do not remember is if the discussion was before or after I had played some news videos with sound and realized later on that I had not turned the sound completely off when I quit playing the videos.

This AM.... for the very first time since those socks were ordered, after looking at them online... in the fall of 2013....
when I checked my emails on my Windows 7 laptop... the first one was from Tommy Copper.

I thought it odd and I had not looked at it online it was just that we were talking about it......

I also thought the monitoring came if you put W10 on your cell phone which I will not do.... and now will not put on either of my remaining computers......

Looks like eventually I'll need to go to Mac.

However, I wonder if you pay for premium privacy service in the likes of Firefox if it still can be collected?

Linux Mint 17.2 was pretty good.  My old hardware didn't work well with KDE, but installing Chrome was a breeze.  There is now Netflix support within Chrome and the nss libraries are installed by default in the OS.  The OS is easier to install than Windows.
