I love Habenero peppers for their flavor, but the heat is just too much. I got some mild Habenero seeds and they finally ripened today. So I made a Habenero barbecue sauce. The peppers are very mild, so I put in 1/3 of a poblano for just a bit of heat.
Mild Habenero Barbecue Sauce
8 small sweet Habeneros, seeded
1/3 poblano pepper no seeds or membrane
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/3 cup honey
2 tsp kosher salt
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp powdered mustard
2 cups catsup
2/3 cup apple cider vinegar
In a small food processor, process peppers, cider, salt, onion, garlic and mustard
In saucepan, mix with other ingredients and cook on low for about 1/2 hour. Bottle and store in refrigerator
