The 3 Whites
« on: March 25, 2011, 03:48:51 PM »
I would just like to mention some thing of health to you all !

Sugar - Salt - white flour.

Please quite using them they are bad for you.

Instead of  sugar , use honey or maple [ I prefer maple, taste better and you can use less,  and do not have to worry about a baby having honey.]
When using maple  in place of sugar - I use half of what is called for !
Honey, you need to use more then the maple, but not quite what sugar calls for.

Salt - Please use Sea salt, and of course which ever you use try to use less.
not table salt

White flour.  Please do not use it at all .

Whole wheat is good !   It takes a little getting use to but not long.

I quite like honey.  And although I grew up on Wonder Bread...I prefer Wheat or Whole Wheat now.

I like sea salt too.  Just looks cool and clumpy.

But....I wouldn't say the whites are bad for you.  I have a friend who says "the whiter the bread...the quicker you're dead!"  LOL

Whole wheat does have more nutritional value.  White bread is made just from the endosperm of the wheat berry, while wheat bread is made from endosperm, germ and bran (all 3 parts of the berry).

But just because something has more nutrients...doesn't mean you have to eat it.  Banana skins have nutrients.  But I just couldn't get used to it...

Blessings,

Jason

One thing to watch if you're cutting out table salt. . . and until a year ago, I didn't realize this was my problem.

Table salt has iodide/iodine added.  An important nutrient for your thyroid.  I started cutting back even more on the little salt that I did use.  For reasons, unknown to me, I was taking a multi-vitamin that did not contain iodide/iodine (it was a multi that my husband always used & I had started using).

So, I started developing mood problems (near violent bouts of anger), had trouble losing weight, was cold all the time. . . many symptoms that are associated with thyroid problems.  During a treatment with our reflexologist (who is a retired nurse who now practices natural medicine), we got to talking about what I was going through.  She asked about my diet & then the vitamins & then told me that it sounded like I was on my way to a goiter!  I probably wasn't getting enough iodine.  She hooked me up with an iodine supplement & within a couple of weeks everything changed.  I don't take the supplement anymore, but I make sure that my multi contains enough iodide/iodine.  Haven't had a problem since.

There are also many foods that contain iodine, too.  So, if you cut out the table salt, which is probably a wise decision, make sure you assess whether or not you're getting enough iodine in your diet or through vitamin supplements.

much of either.

No matter what form of salt you're using, it's all the exact same thing.

I take it you do not go shopping ?

Whole Wheat  , pumpernickel,   Rhye   , etc............

And of course you can make your own bread.   There are machines that will do it in your home......  Just follow the directions.

Any sweetener will !

My husband uses Stevia    Not sure of the spelling.

I have not tried that for baking.   I use maple  .

Will honey effect my blood sugar?

"Will honey effect my blood sugar?"

Look into it. But yes, I believe so. Tupulo honey though seems to be alright for diabetics - again, research it and ask your doctor.
