One thing to watch if you're cutting out table salt. . . and until a year ago, I didn't realize this was my problem.
Table salt has iodide/iodine added. An important nutrient for your thyroid. I started cutting back even more on the little salt that I did use. For reasons, unknown to me, I was taking a multi-vitamin that did not contain iodide/iodine (it was a multi that my husband always used & I had started using).
So, I started developing mood problems (near violent bouts of anger), had trouble losing weight, was cold all the time. . . many symptoms that are associated with thyroid problems. During a treatment with our reflexologist (who is a retired nurse who now practices natural medicine), we got to talking about what I was going through. She asked about my diet & then the vitamins & then told me that it sounded like I was on my way to a goiter! I probably wasn't getting enough iodine. She hooked me up with an iodine supplement & within a couple of weeks everything changed. I don't take the supplement anymore, but I make sure that my multi contains enough iodide/iodine. Haven't had a problem since.
There are also many foods that contain iodine, too. So, if you cut out the table salt, which is probably a wise decision, make sure you assess whether or not you're getting enough iodine in your diet or through vitamin supplements.
