 ::lookaround::

therefore, per Sartre, the teen years are pure hell? ("everybody is looking at me")

or,

it is in the teen years when we best see ourselves for who we really are?!

another thought:  Adam and Eve had the original "Žižek authentic multicultural experience" as they stood before Him in the garden and their eyes were opened to naked truth?

interesting concept!

some say I resemble this --

but, this is the C-monster!?  ha!

Powerful topic, thank you for your post. most interesting.

My mother told me growing up, that we hate in others what we hate in ourselves and I have found myself many times annoyed and even disgusted with other's actions or words and then turned around and saw in myself something, perhaps far in the past, that I couldn't stand about myself.

Good point!
My mom used to tell me the same thing.  I think, often, it is true.  I remind myself that Jesus loves us all and that he commanded us to love one another.  I used to be a very critical person.  I thank God for my new outlook.  I see others who are 'different' in a new light.

ok, Vman,

you seem to be pulling the discussion back to the center - "do you see what I see..."?!

my problem, seriously, is that I usually feel misunderstood; others have blurred vision.

but, sometimes, when I am courageous, I ask myself, "what if they are right?!"

but, I do not go there very often.

Jerry,

Maybe Adam and Eve did have, as you say, the first "Žižek authentic multicultural experience", or maybe they didn't in that they transferred unto God the shame they saw in themselves.

Agreed that the teen years are hell.  Wouldn't do it again for nuttin'.  Teens don't know who they are so they're always looking outside themselves for identity.  And, I think they do a terrible job of seeing themselves through the eyes of the other and will settle for any snippit of affirmation.  Insecurity on steriods.

Err, something like that....

Yeah, I know your problem.  Or, is it my problem?  Naw, never!  Couldn't be!  It's your problem after all, why should I buy into it??  Dang, now why did you have to go and open that can of worms?????  You know, there might be something to that, but....naw, ain't goin' there......

;o)
