Psalm 83 versus Ezekiel 38

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Editor's note:

There has developed controversy over  the Psalm 83 passages about the fate of Israel's neighboring enemies. Certainly, no people are in more danger of God's Judgment than are those primarily Islamic  nations, most of whom have at one time or another  voiced their desire to see the Jewish people and the nation Israel forever removed from the Middle East --even from the planet. (Read Genesis 12: 1-3 to see God's Warning to  those who would curse Abraham's offspring. And that offspring comes from Abraham's son Isaac, and grandson, Jacob.)

Is Psalm 83 exclusively an imprecatory plea to Israel's God to completely destroy Israel's neighbor antagonists? Or --are the passages of this Psalm predictive of an actual war that is scheduled, perhaps before the long prophesied Gog-Magog invasion of Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39?

We are putting two views on the passages side by side. Each explains the particular position in excellent fashion. Read, study, pray, and come to your own conclusions.

What scripture do you use to say the anti-christ is the leader of Syrai?  I find that interesting.  And the scripture you use for Gog being the anti-christ?  Also, Magog is Asia Minor?

Ezekiel says of Gog: This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Are you (Gog) the one I spoke of in former day by my servants the prophets of Israel? At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you (Gog) against them (Israel) Eze 38:17

The OT prophets prophesied Gog would invade Israel in the time of the end, the great tribulation. The prophets never name the invader as “Gog

Gog is ancient Babylon.  Today, the same territory covers Syria plus most of Iraq.

MaGog is ancient Babel (the city itself).  In Hebrew, the letter M is a prefix that means "inside" or "within."   MaGog = Within Gog.

The Assyria of old was destroyed by Babylon, the future Syrian is destroyed by God.

I have another Scripture. Mic 5:4-7 NIV

The Millennium:
4  He (Messiah) will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they (Israel) will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. 5  And he will be their peace.

Jacob’s trouble before the Millennium:
5  When the Assyrian invades our land and marches through our fortresses, (after 3.5 years) we (God and Messiah) will raise against him seven shepherds, even eight leaders of men. 6  They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn sword. (Nimrod is synonymous with Assyria) He will deliver us from the Assyrian when he invades our land and marches into our border.

The Millennium
7  The remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples like dew from the LORD, like showers on the grass, which do not wait for man or linger for mankind.
