Well yes, The real Babylon is kinda close to home if you live in Canada. Porfio Dias, (onetime president of Mexico), had a quote that sums it up nicely : "Poor Mexico, so far from GOD, and so close to the United States."

So are you saying we can now add "Mexico" to this growing list of places some believe is the Babylon mentioned in Re.?

Remember now, ALL of those things mentioned MUST apply to what the bible refers to as "Babylon the Great"!

Just what merchants of the earth "are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies."?

I don't know which version of the Bible says "Delicasies"; but to answer your question in 1948 the U.S. State Department released information to the effect that the United States, with 6.? % of the worlds population, (I forget the exact decimal point amount), consumed 53.? % of the worlds production, (again I forget the exact decimal point amount). They went on to say that the thrust of American foreign policy was to try to get the rest of the world to accept that.

In 1975 Scientific American reran the numbers. They had not changed by a single percentage point in either regard. Still 6 point some odd of the world's population consuming 53 point some odd of the world's production. for confirmation review 1975 copies of Scientific American.

Now I know you are aiming this drivel at the Catholic Church; but trust me, they don't consume anything like that much of the world's production.

All the world' merchants will weep when she is destroyed, who now will buy their (big long list of luxuries) ?
All the shipmasters (etc)

As far as the version of the bible I use, it is the KJV.  Rev.18:and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

What the merchants of the earth are buying is the false religion she is selling, NOT produce!

"For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her"

Again, you cannot take one characteristic from the bible and apply it, you MUST use EVERYTHING God gave us to identify the woman.

Will you ignore the fact that she sits on (7) mountains?
How about the comparison to Babylon?
And what of her colors?
She also has the power to influence religion, the only way to fornicate against God is to serve OTHERS Gods.

ALL of these characteristic must the woman of Rev. posess, not just one or two.

So does America sit on (7) mountains?
Did America redress the practices of Old Babylon?
Do you think of America when you think of the colors Scarlet and Purple?
And how does America influence the world with religion?

And last, who said anything about the Catholic Church?  I'm simply quoting scriptures here. :):)

the only conclusion i can come to is that babylon is a spiritual city that covers the whole earth
the old babylon was representative of the whole earth, before it was divided by god himself
it's closely associated with false religion and materialism, so not just worship of false "gods" but also the worship of mammon (money)
how many saints and prophets and also unbelievers have been killed in the name of false religion and also for greed of money?
this system has always existed since babel, has sat on every world kingdom, and literally sits on the 7 continents of earth
i don't see how the description of babylon can apply to one particular country or city, if it can i would like someone to show me
as for all those slain upon the earth, that applys to every single part of the earth

present examples;

muslim extremists/terrorists - false religion
drug gangs - worship of money/ sorceries (drugs), especially in south america
abortions in developed countries (this makes profits for those who do it)
constant war and murder in africa
koreans starving to death (because of the greed of the government)
