                                                        The King of Fierce Countence
                                                                    DANIEL 8:23
                                                                 WALTER E.TUBBS

Surely the Lord God will do nothing but that he will reveal his secrets unto his servants the prophets Amos 3:7 The most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomsoever he will. Daniel 4:32

In the year B.C. 538 a strange thing occurred. In the same hour came forth a finger of a man’s hand and wrote upon the plaster of the wall of the king’s Palace and the king saw part of the hand that wrote Me’ne, Me’ne, Te’-kel, U’phar’son Daniel 5:5 This is the interpretation of the thing Me’- ne, God hath numbered thy kingdom and finished it. Te’-kel; thou art weighed in the balance and found wanting.  Pe’-res; thy kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and the Persians. In that night Bel-shaz’-zar the king of the Chaldeans was slain and Darius the Mede took the kingdom! Daniel 5:24, 31

The eighth chapter of Daniel predicts the rise of the Grecian Empire and fall of the Mede-Persian Empire. And he saw the Ram with two horns Darius the Mede and Cyrus the Persian. And as I was considering behold an he goat meaning an army from Greece smote the Ram and broke his two horns i.e. kings. This chapter concludes indicating these two kingdoms in some form will last until the time appointed Daniel 8:19 a reference to the time of the end.
And in the latter time of their kingdom indicating Persia and Greece when the transgressors are come to the full a king/dom of Fierce Countenance understanding dark sentences debates in the United Nations shall stand up [1945] Daniel 8:23 seen as a beast with seven heads [kings] Revelation 17:10 with whom ten horns Europe the former Roman empire has joined, and still another [the United States] a little horn nameless but identified as he his or him whose military power is mighty advocating a policy of peace, nevertheless will destroy many. Daniel 8:24,25 His name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon [destroyer] and in the Greek tongue Apollyon also meaning destroyer Revelation 9:11 evidently pointing to the United States who in due course will take position against the Prince of princes [the Lord Jesus] but he shall be broken without hand and shall come to his end with none to help him. Daniel 11:36,45

And as I was considering behold an he goat came from the West symbolic of the kingdom of Greece and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes representing Alexander the great, whose army came to the Ram i.e. Mede /Persia and ran unto him in the fury of his power and smote the Ram and broke his two horns meaning [kings].

Therefore the he goat the Empire of Greece waxed very great nevertheless it too will come to an end. The great horn Alexander the great, was suddenly broken and died in Babylon June 13th B.C. 323 at age 33 of unknown cause his Empire divided by his four Generals. Daniel 8:22 Cassandra took Greece, Lysimachus Asia Minor and Turkey, Epiphanies Syria Lebanon and Babylon, Ptolemy ruled Egypt.

This prophetic view introduces Antiochus Epiphanies IV  king of Syria the Eastern little horn Daniel 7:8 who on a second attempt to plunder Egypt Daniel 11:21,35 was stopped by Roman forces sailing from Cyprus bringing with them a decree from Rome forbidding Epiphanies never again to enter Egypt. In the sand where he was standing a circle was drawn warning him that one step over the line pointing toward Egypt would mean certain death. With that threat Epiphanies ordered his army return to Syria. On the way his troops were instructed to plunder all Temples the last was the Hebrew Temple in Jerusalem.

Epiphanies IV placed a statue of Zeus, in the Hebrew Temple in Jerusalem B.C.175 unclean animals were sacrificed and their bloods sprinkled on the sacred alter as a sacrifice to the Greek god of heaven. Daniel 11:31 Daniel 8:9,14 Hebrew homes were ram-sacked and many Israelites were killed. Jerusalem was left in ruins.

Twenty three hundred days were determined before victory would be attained over Antiochus and the sanctuary cleansed. Daniel 8:13,14 This prophecy was fulfilled to the precise day when an army lead by Judas Maccabees defeated Antiochus Epiphanies IV an event to this day is celebrated by Jews all over the world as Hanukkah the feast of lights.

Another a little horn from the West at the time of the end will likewise repeat this atrocity. Daniel 7:8 Jesus foretold of end time event. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the Prophet stand in the holy place whoso read let him understand. Matthew 24:15

A statue of Zeus renamed Jupiter by the Romans is now standing on a pedestal in the main lobby of the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan N.Y. a gift from the Greek government. Could it be the one placed in the rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem?

Antiochus Ephanes prefigure the little horn Daniel 7:8  8:24,25 who desecrate the Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the end. Matthew 24:15 Even him that man of sin who’s coming is after the working of Satan with all power, signs, and lying wonders. II Thessalonians 2:3-9

Daniel sought for the meaning. Behold there stood before me a man which called and said Gabriel make this man to understand the vision. And he said unto me, Understand O son of man for at the time of the end shall be the vision. And he said behold, I will make thee to know what shall be in the last end of the indignation for at the time appointed the end shall be. Daniel 8:16,19

And I heard but I understood not then said I O my God what shall be the end of all these things? And he said go thy way Daniel for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Daniel 12:8.9

Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi of Persia became Crown Prince in 1925 when his father Reza Shaw Pahlavi became official monarch and requested in 1935 that all governments no longer express their nation as Persia but Iran.

The allied occupation of Tehran in 1941 during World War II resulted in forced resignation of Reza Shaw Pahlavi on behalf of his young crown prince who assumed the throne. Political opposition in 1953 forced the son to leave the country but was restored to power by the assistance of the United States. The new King wanted to be known thereafter as Shah meaning king in Persian and continue the reform policies of his father.

The Shah established himself as an indispensable ally of the United States. This      further provoked the exiled cleric Ayatollah Khomeyni who was a major factor leading to the Shaw’s banishment.

The Shaw in 1971 as heir to the kings of ancient Persia held an extravagant celebration recognizing 2500 years of Persian monarchy. Soon after, the Shah was suddenly beset by nationwide riots and demonstrations against this kind of rule that progressively undermined his authority. No longer receiving support from the people his government collapsed.

Following widespread uprising in 1978 and 1979 an Islamic government under Khomeyni succeeded him. The Shaw died with Cancer on July 27 1980 while exiled in Egypt. “He was the 446th Monarch the last heir linking him to King Cyrus and to the 2500 year old Dynasty as founders and finishers of history. Iran’s government has been changed to a Theocratic Republic, the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Some years before the founding of the United Nations in 1945 Greece had been torn between a monarchy and a Republic. However in 1935 the Greek government decided on re-establishing a Monarchy and returned an heir, King George II to the throne. He died in 1947 and was succeeded by his brother Paul, who died in 1964. His son, Constantine II succeeded King Paul who soon after was exiled to Rome.

Papadopoulos then Prime Minister of Greece succeeded in disposing the Sovereign system. Six years after the king had left the country the monarchy was formerly abolished. The Supreme Court subsequently ruled that Papadopoulos’ decree abolishing the monarchy had been legal and therefore ended the kingdom of Greece dating back to its founder Alexander the Great.

And in the latter time of their kingdom when the transgressors are come to the full a king of fierce countenance [the United Nations] shall stand up lead by [the United States] his power shall be mighty but not by his own power. Daniel 8:23,24 undoubtedly allied with the Europe.
Near at the end of World War II Russia, the United States, and Great Britain’s troops were occupying Greece. The latter two countries withdrew in agreement with the Tripartite Alliance Pact but Russia refused to move its troops out of Greece.

And I beheld another a different ‘beast’ not from the European area most likely the United States coming up higher or considered to be higher looking like a Lamb a Christianized nation and he had two horns Daniel 8:20 a President and Vice-President and he spoke like a dragon a super-power. Revelation 13:11 He shall come with all power signs and lying wonders, II Thessalonians 2:9 and his power shall be mighty but not by his own power Daniel 8:24 he is also allied with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

At the end of World War II President Truman cautioned Russia to remove its troops from Greece warning he would send American forces back and expel them. Russia took the threat seriously and removed them knowing the super- power of the United States. Revelation 13:11

Persia i.e., Iran, was the first nation to have a complaint brought before the Security Council in the United Nations. The Security Council also considered the Greek question on February 1, 1946 in the newly formed United Nations.
WHO IS THIS KING OF FIERCE COUNTENANCE

                                       DANIEL 8:23

THE King  one supreme in its class

“The charter reflects the premise that the United Nations is supreme and accepted regionalism conditionally with evidence of anxious concern that lesser agencies should be subordinated to and harmonized with the United Nations.
