I'm a full time children's minister and I'm feeling led to leave and go to another church. I've been at this church for a long time. Its a small church and I've seen people leave and it just doesn't seem like there is any easy way of going about it.
I need some advice. It would take a lot of faith being that I'm a single mom and this is my only source of income.
I am a long time member of a small church. We have gone through periods where people leave, and it gets discouraging. I find times like this really drive us back to basics
. They force us to ask ourselves the tough questions. Am I going to church and serving for the right reasons? Can God only work where there are big numbers? Is it right to leave just because other people are doing it? I believe our great focus ought to be the worship and glory of God.
I have stuck it out for many years, and looking back, I can say it has been worth it. I can also say I have seen many people leave for wrong reasons, and they have sometimes regretted it.
I know that many Christians do not think that belonging to a specific church is really any sort of commitment. I disagree. The language used in Scripture to describe the church all point to the importance of a strong connection. We are part of a building
, a body
, a vine
. Yes, these are spiritual images
. But it makes no sense to me that Christ holds all His people together...and yet we seem to leave local fellowships/churches at the drop of a hat.
Obviously...you haven't done this. But I just suggest you give it more prayer. Talk to a pastor about how you feel.
