Feeling led to leave?
« on: Thu Apr 07, 2011 - 12:15:40 »
I'm a full time children's minister and I'm feeling led to leave and go to another church. I've been at this church for a long time. Its a small church and I've seen people leave and it just doesn't seem like there is any easy way of going about it.

I need some advice. It would take a lot of faith being that I'm a single mom and this is my only source of income.

Dear Amberliv,

I am a long time member of a small church.  We have gone through periods where people leave, and it gets discouraging.  I find times like this really drive us back to basics.  They force us to ask ourselves the tough questions.  Am I going to church and serving for the right reasons?  Can God only work where there are big numbers?  Is it right to leave just because other people are doing it?  I believe our great focus ought to be the worship and glory of God.

I have stuck it out for many years, and looking back, I can say it has been worth it.  I can also say I have seen many people leave for wrong reasons, and they have sometimes regretted it.

I know that many Christians do not think that belonging to a specific church is really any sort of commitment.  I disagree.  The language used in Scripture to describe the church all point to the importance of a strong connection.  We are part of a building, a body, a vine.  Yes, these are spiritual images.  But it makes no sense to me that Christ holds all His people together...and yet we seem to leave local fellowships/churches at the drop of a hat.

Obviously...you haven't done this.  But I just suggest you give it more prayer.  Talk to a pastor about how you feel.

Blessings,
Jason

if you feel that God is telling you to leave the church, and your job, then maybe start looking for work elsewhere, either at another church or a job outside church. If God wants you to be elsewhere, then he will find a job for you. Peopl leave churches for many reasons and I can see anything wrong with it as long as God is leading you out.
