When someone confides in you they are going ot commit suicide, what do you do? Legally what are you supposed to do?
Tonight, on my way home from the hospital in Tulsa, I got a call from someone who has attempted suicide twice in the last three weeks, and came real close both times. One time he was life-flighted out to another hospital, another time he was already blue before EMS found him lying in his yard.
Tonight, he called me to tell me there was nothing I could do and he would be dead by the time I returned to town. When I hung up I called the police and told them they needed to find some reason to arrest him to keep him alive and told him of the suicide threat. What would you do in a situation like that?
Have you ever had anyone you were counseling commit suicide? How did that affect you? Have you ever had anyone involuntarily committed in order to protect their own life? I just want to know what I should do.
