Why does God do what He does? Part 1
« on: Sun Feb 08, 2009 - 20:01:17 »
I just want everybody to know that I am excited about being a pastor when I finish high school and college and I know all of you can tell that this might have some flaws, work, etc.  I hope that everybody could give me some tips, what I did wrong and right, and make a few suggestions as well.  Okay, here goes...

Why does God put me through this?  Why did God put me through this divorce?  Why didn't God reveal himself to me in my hour of need?  Why didn't God answer my prayer?  These are all very common questions that we sometimes hear or sometimes say ourselves.  God has done many things and many miracles.  Nobody can understand God, because He created us.  If any of you have any children, you sometimes don't understand why they do what they do and they sometimes don't understand you either.

Let's take a look at Job chapter 1 verses 6-19; 6 One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord and Satan also came with them.  7 The Lord said to Satan, "Where have you come from?"  Satan answered the Lord, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."  8 Then the Lord said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job?  There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."  9 "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.  10 "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has?  You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.  11 But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face."  12 The Lord said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger."  Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.  13 One day, when Job's sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house, 14 a messenger came to Job and said, " The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15 and the Sabeans attacked and carried them off.  They put the servants to the sword and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"  16 While he was still speaking, another messenger game and said, "The fire of God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"  17 While he was still speaking, another messenger game and said, "The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off.  They put the servants to the sword and I am the only on who has escaped to tell you!"  18 While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, "Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house, 19 when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house.  It collapsed on them and they are dead and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"

So, as we read, Job lost all of his livestock, his family, and all but four of his servants.  He pretty much has nothing.  Now let me ask you some more questions.  Satan is very powerful, we all know that, but God is even more powerful.  If you are struggling with sexual immorality, then is Satan going to send some Playboy models at your doorstep to tempt you?  Well, it hasn't happened to me.  If you are in hatred and want to kill someone, is Satan going to mail you a gun to go out and kill the person?  Again, hasn't happened to me!  So we can conclude that Satan's power is limited through the story of Job.  God limited Satan's power by letting him do whatever he wants to Job, but Job himself.

In 1st Corinthians chapter 10 verse 13; No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.  And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

Don't you see!  The part from Job that I typed and the part from 1st Corinthians that I typed go together.  God limits Satan's power and sometimes it is not entirely God who puts you through all the stuff that you go through.  God might have made a deal with Satan to test your faith.  God will provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.  God showed me these Scriptures so that I could bring this message.  If Job didn't go through all of this, I wouldn't be making this message.  Now I hope you understand why God does what He does and I will be working on part 2 soon  ::smile::

I don't know that God puts you through anything. At least in the sense of getting up on any given Tuesday and deciding "Hey, I think I'll put Bob through some tough crap today."

It is known that God puts people through stuff, but it normally has to do with getting your attention (like having Assyria take half your country away, or allowing famines to wipe out your crops before He lets Assyria do their thing).

However, your job remains the same: trust God and live as He made you to live.

People will always say something like "why did God let this happen?", "why did God help him/her and not me?" or "why did God let someone I love die?"

If you can only ask "why did God..." questions, you will never see what God did keep from happening to you.

Exactly my point!
