If you preach a thanksgiving message to your congregation either the Sunday before or after Thanksgiving, what scripture will you use this year to encourage your congregation to live lives of greatitude and thankfulness giving all the glory to God for what he has done in our lives?  I have chosen to use Psalm 103 where David stirs up his soul to bless God for who God is and what God has done.

He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; like one from whom men hide their face; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.  Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.

We're in the middle of a series on some some of the "one another" passages.  We'll continue in that vein.  The Sunday before Thanksgiving was from 1st Thessalonians: "Therefore encourage one another with these words," dealing with our hope beyond the grave in times of doubt and grief.

I used Psalm 16 and talked about giving thanks in difficult times.

I think that would be a good one for the times we are in now

Our thanksgiving time was a prayer night during the weekend prior, so our message this past Sunday was a kick-off to a new series unrelated to the holiday.
