Ames Free Bible College?
« on: October 21, 2010, 12:38:01 PM »
Does anyone know anything about these courses? I was looking for free college courses on the Bible and came across many websites, but this one caught my eye the most.

I'm wondering if I should do it or not.

I looked at their site. Several things set off my red flags. But if you watch closely (they make it flash rapidly so that you won't read it) read that red flashing thing. It costs several hundred dollars.

I personally would stay with well known colleges (in this country) for on-line classes, and pay the fee.

Actually, it truly is free. You only have to pay if you decide that you want the credits for taking the course. If you choose to just do the material and not accept the credits or a "diploma" than it stays free.

It's the one main thing that drew me to it is that it's free. My Pell Grants that I get from now till I graduate from the EMS program are exactly for that, my EMS program. I don't have the money to pay the fee.

The same course that's free from this Ames Bible College is the same one that they teach to those that pay. The only difference is what I explained in my first paragraph.

The only thing that I would always keep in mind when I take bible lessons or classes, that the teacher will always have his bent.....and therefore could include some legalism....meaning, adding something or ANYTHING to salvation........so, just be careful of this.... bless you!

Lonewolf, you seem to be quite sold on this, so if it is free you might want to go ahead with it.  I rather recommend the WOTS outline for a sound inquiry.  It is clearly based on Scripture and not some rationale and theories.

I believe a faithful "child of God" should trust our Savior --the Lord Jesus (which pleases the Father), worship Him and make Him our best Friend;  value "unity of the faith", be non-sectarian and hold fully to Scripture ---declaring "all the counsel of God" and be "rightly dividing the Word of Truth" as the Apostle Paul counseled the saints.  Let us look up always (note John 14).

I like the WOTS one as well, but one can't be too learned in this subject.
