If you travel and stay in hotels -
« on: Fri Dec 02, 2022 - 12:55:09 »
My daughter, her husband, and baby are in Hawaii this week, visiting his family. They decided to stay in a hotel, instead of with family, because of the baby needing quiet nap time, etc. Well, that plan isn't working out. Housekeeping union members are protesting with megaphones outside the hotel and start at 7 a.m. each morning. They want more hours, but hotel management isn't giving it to them.
Hotel management says customers request no housekeeping during stays due to covid. The hotel they're staying at (Hilton) will only clean the room by request during a stay, no matter how many days you stay. She says looking for trash cans that aren't overflowing to dispose of diapers and things is kind of a drag.
I've been staying in hotels more lately, and I've noticed no housekeeping while I'm there - which I'm actually ok with no one entering my room during my stay, but I only stay 2-3 nights at a time. Haven't noticed any union protests, though. Maybe because I'm not in a resort setting? IDK
Even with covid waning, I doubt hotels go back to daily housekeeping services.
Something will have to give, though, because people won't be booking hotel rooms if megaphone protesting is going on outside their balconies.

I travel usually for business and don't want housekeeping.  I just dump any trash I have in the lobby trash or the trash near the elevators if I am on an upper floor.
