I said 60 in the poll, which I am very close to.  Although I'm in pretty good condition and I don't think I look a day over 50(-ish), I feel that 60 is a benchmark to people which says that you are now, officially, Old!  I am frustrated that people look at the (slightly) aging outer "me" and don't bother to meet the younger, "inner" me.  That said, I do enjoy the occassional bouts of wisdom I experience.  Cool

But dear sister, by looking at your avatar you've developed terrible eating habits in your older age.   Smile

Before I came to Christ (became born-again) I truly did not believe that I would live past 21. I tried several times to make it happen, in fact. I hated my birthdays and hated the idea of being alive for that long (how ever many years it had been).

But when I lived beyond 21, 22, 23, and into my thirties (even though I tried again a few more times to end my life), I realized that the prevailing force - the spiritual force - that was so much a part of my life wasn't done with me.

When I became born-again, I was 32, I learned the truth of it: God protected me so many ways not only from the times I tried to end my life, but the many other close calls that I've had over the years, including others who have also tried to end my life. God, in His wisdom, spared my life for His purpose(s) that is so much better than anything I could have conceived of on my own.

Now, each year that I get to live in His grace, in His forgiveness and under His love and parentage is truly a blessing. Through His son, Christ Jesus, I most absolutely live life more abundantly and nothing will ever make me feel bad about that!

More birthdays? Bring 'em on - PLEASE!  Party! Party! Party!

Well Proverbs is all about wisdom...and, with the Lord's help, it comes with age.

If folks feel they must have TATTOOS, have you considered having faith related designs tattooed?

 I have an idea!

It will be the one after my next to the last birthday! And the one before my birth into eternity.

Well two of us get depressed on B-days, by the poll results. Though Gwen made an excellent point, that made me think.

The only birthday that ever bothered me was 20.

When my son turned 20, that is. Smile  I guess because that was my age when I had him.

Eight years have passed since then, and I rarely think about my age. I'm often actually rather surprised when I look in the mirror because I'm still 20 in my head.

Well, to be honest, sometimes I'm still 12 in my head.

Nevertheless I know what you mean. I am in my early 50's and still feel about 30 in side. The shock came when my oldest child was 30 (last year) that made me feel pretty old. Mind you I did have him young (21).
I look in the mirror and wonder who that lady is looking back at me.I wonder where the young me went.

50 hit me quite hard as I had only been married a year then and felt sad that my husband and I hadnt had all those younger years together. Also it did make me realise that I am not going to live forever (at least on the earth) and that can be quite a shock. However God has amazing things in store and for myself and my husband in many ways life has only just begun, and God is using us in amazing way already. The future is good and exciting.

I dont know how people who dont believe cope with getting older, it must be depressing to think this is all there is.

Well I'm a bit different in that I don't think as a twelve year old, I don't look like a 20 year old, I can no longer do the things as well as I did when I was younger, BUT somewhere deep inside me there is a little boy locked up that continues to near make his escape at times. My wife has said in the past: won't you ever grow up? you're going to kill yourself.

Today I would not hesitate to join in a sandlot tackle football game, enter a baseball or basketball game, jump into a boxing ring with someone for a one minute round, though the next day as my wife massaged my old tired muscles she would probably repeat those same words; aren't you ever going to grow up?

I've heard that you're only as old as you feel, and if that's the case a birthday is not going to deter my dreams of participating in life. Adding color to my hair wouldn't help, though a facelift might make me irresistible in my own eyes, and then with conviction I could sing the lyrics: "I'm so pretty, oh so pretty."

On December 31, I will have been retired ten years and would not trade any of that time to go back to a younger age. I have learned that I would have probably made the same mistakes until God worked that out of me to do His will. Birthdays come and go and if my wife didn't mention them to me I would probably forget them. Now I'm not saying my memory is gone because I never forget our anniversary or my wife's birthday for good reason, but I love what God is doing at developing fruit in my life at this stage of it.

That's the key. Too many of us waste too much of our lives anticipating good times to come and wishing to go back to good times of the past.

God gave us the gift of today. That's why it's called the present.

I agree with you 100%. We should live in the present and not the future or past.  Amen!
