Just to say, the lady who served at my local Christian bookstore wore a tongue ring: a bit radical, I reckon....

John 3.16 contains great theology, without doubt.

Read God's Word prayerfully every day; it's a joy and privilege.

If folks feel they must have TATTOOS, have you considered having faith related designs tattooed?

(And try vacationing in the South: plenty of sun, and some great churches down there!)

This is very funny to me because we have a young lady that was in college at the time, and I just kidded her about her body piercings on a weekend home. She looked very surprised and whispered sshhh; my mother and dad don't know about them. I was referring to her pierced ear rings; I have no idea what she thought I knew, but I told her and she was relieved and said even her mother had those. WOW; such brazen behavior for a Christian mother; no wonder her daughter went off the deep end.

To me it's the nature of man to slip into the ways of the world. I personally have never gotten legal on such things, but I remember a Nazarene Church where the women could not wear lipstick, face makeup, any jewelry, etc. In later years their membership was down so far they started allowing such things and people bought back into the legalism they retained.

You would have though if those things made a person more righteous, they would have shoved burkas at the women, and it may have made some of them more attractive also.   Look around

Larry:

So you mean, she had more than one in each ear? is that what you were referring to?

Take care.

making holes in our flesh and inserting metal for beautification.  Godly, huh?  In ages past this was called mutilation.  The dictionary definition fits it, too.  Perhaps they had more common sense than we do.  Oops, sorry.  We're enlightened and free in Christ's love to do as we jolly well please with His temple.  I guess that He didn't make it well enough or something.

Doing things to the body doesn't hurt the soul.  Yet how does that negate that what we do to the body reveals the soul?

Mr s:

Well in Ezekiel 16.12 God gives earrings and even a nose ring, so I wouldn't go too far with arguing against them. (No, I'm not saying ppl need nose rings.)

Ms l:

Actually they say it doesn't hurt that much, unless the tongue swells... (No, I'm not advocating that, either.)

That is allegory, friend.  Basic grammer stuff, that.  God also says He has wings.  Is He a bird?  He also says in a parable that the dude could have at least put the money in the bank and gotten interest, yet the bible condemns that: Christ was using what the people did in order to get a point accross: he was not condoning what they did.  God also said that He washed Israel in its infancy, and washed the blood from it, and raised it until she grew up and developed breasts, but then the woman let the foreigners press her breasts.  If you hold your position on the jewelery allegory, then hold it for the rest of the Word, too!  Novel stuff is what you get then.

Fixed it for ya.  Now you can continue to preach without a congregation.  I apologize for the interuption but the irony was too thick to ignore.

She only had one earring in each ear, and having gone off to college I was just kidding her as becoming part of the world. She though didn't realize I was referring to the earrings, and assumed I knew something I didn't. I would not have critized her if she had fish hooks in her eyebrows, but I do not see where there is a difference in body piercing one part of the body than another. A mother may jump on her daughter about a tongue ring, and have earrings.  I don't know, what do you think?

Larry:

So you don't even like/approve of ladies having even one earring in each ear?

(Just wondered what you meant, that's all.)

Take care.
