John db

well my husband will wear socks in bed if it is cold. He is Australian so he does get cold in the winters here in the uK. It doesnt bother me actually (so does that make me weird?)I tell him that it isnt the sexiest thing he coud be wearing to bed but we both laugh about it.

I was wondering actually where this thing of women shaving came from? Why is it that men are allowed to be hairy and women arent?has it always been like this? Presumably women didnt use to shave before razors and waxing etc etc?Maybe it is a fairly recent thing in the history of human civilization. I suppose it is just what we are used to today.

Most of our clothing norms come from the Elizabethan era of Britain.
Up to that time there was the age old standard.
Britian was at one time the absolute largest country in the world. The sun truly never set on that empire. It spanned several continents...including this one. India, Australia, North america and so on.  They also imposed their clothing and morality standards upon the rest of the world.

Up to that time a half naked worman was nothing special. Bathing naked in public was the norm (swimming).  Since that era the stigma of revealing clothing has been associated with sexual promiscuity...especially in colder climates such as Canada....for a reason obviously.

With the slow revealing of skin once again (decade by decade women began showing more and more skin) we men still prefer our women to be dainty instead of strong....hairless being a part of a holdover from the roman empire.  The hairless thing being a new twist on daintyness. So...as more skin was revealed and legs shown they had to get rid of that body hair for a dainty appearance.

Where I appreciate a strong woman...as well as a hairless one...I would rather she wear clothes...at least in public. In bed she needs to get rid of those socks.  Sleeping

I have to shave my legs often, as I'm afraid the dog catcher might come by and see me.

Seriously, I have heard that many European women don't shave at all.  I don't know if that's true - I don't know any European women and have never been there.  I think it's a man-made rule, rather than a spiritual one.  Can't find any Scripture that says "Thy woman - shave thyself."

I think it kind of goes along with the make up issue.  I once heard a preacher say that he wished some of the women in his congregation would wear a little make up.  He'd probably prefer that they shave, too.

God Bless.

I dont think its a sin for a lady any more than its a sin for a man to shave. How is it any different by the way than cutting our hair on our heads?

Speaking of sin, is it a sin or sinful for a lady to remove hair from her legsand other areas by waxing?
(before anyone accuses me of risque behavior or thinking the other areas I was thing of related to
areas such as the upper lip or the chin etc,)    Smile

 Laughing histerically
Walker this has to be an original from yours truly.
I'm thinking only if you use beeswax would it be a sin cause you'd have to kill a bee.  Poor thing.

OOOOOOOOOT Standing answer!

Women in some european countries dont shave, but it doesnt apply to the UK, (not that I have seen anyway)

Wow that pastor had a cheek to say that. Why do women have to wear make up anyway? Men dont (as a rule)and are they any better looking than women?. God made us as we are, and if He thinks we are beautiful why do we have to wear make up just to please the pastor or anyone else?.Sad .

Umm.....(I'm not sure I should even say anything here.)

It seems to me that years ago some churches would prefer ladies to wear skirts, as being more modest.

Especially after the era of miniskirts, now pants are preferred by maybe some of the same churches as being more modest.

(Hey, miniskirts are so established that the new sort is the microskirt...)

And so it goes. Modesty is important but customs are often relative, and it's good to concentrate on the inward and spiritual.

John 3.16 contains great theology, without doubt.

Read God's Word prayerfully every day; it's a joy and privilege.

If folks feel they must have TATTOOS, have you considered having faith related designs tattooed?

(And try vacationing in the South: plenty of sun, and some great churches down there!)

I am just wondering why specifically the hair that naturally grows on a womans body became an unfeminine trait? How can it not be feminine or undainty when it occurrs naturally to every woman when she hits puperty?

When did hair on  the legs and the armpits become a male trait? I can understand even the hair on the face. But most women who have a lot of facial hair especially dark hair its due to a medical issue.

I think after all the tallies are in that it is safe to conclude....

1) That it is not a sin for women to shave

2)That it is more likely a sin for them not to shave

3)and my shaving of women's legs other than my wife's is likely a sin.

4)and socks in my bed are a definate sin.
