Anyone here with Essential Tremor? What have you done for it? What body parts are affected, and what level (mild, moderate, etc) are you?

I'm moderate, voice/hands/arms. I've been trying meds recently. I can't use Propanolol because of asthma, couldn't tolerate side effects of Primidone. I'm trying Gabapentin, almost at the point of needing to use it 3 X a day - that seems like it would be a real pain. If that doesn't work, I guess I need to wait until I'm really tired of the tremor and the insensitive comments from people.  Then I'll go for DBS. My neuro doesn't have any other options for me.

Ms Silvia:

I have high blood pressure and my hand shakes and I'm occasionally unsteady on my feet. I'm on high bp med.

I guess slowing down a little helps, too.

John 3.16 contains great theology, without doubt.

Read God's Word prayerfully every day; it's a joy and privilege.

If folks feel they must have TATTOOS, have you considered having faith related designs tattooed?

(And try vacationing in the South: plenty of sun, and some great churches down there!)

Hmm. You're unsteady on your feet? I wasn't aware that was a symptom of ET - is that your diagnosis? Have you been working with a neuro or through a family doc?

My tremor is worse when I'm tired or injured (I'm a clutz), but it's hard to go through life completely rested! And I have it when I'm rested anyhow.

Ms silvia:

My basic diagnosis is high bp; the tremor might or might not be related, but it's not severe.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties.

Ms. Silva I am sorry to hear about your problem. Jesus please be with Your child and help her. Heal her Jesus in Your Name I pray amen and amen.
My arms will make jerkling motions. I also have a trembling lip at times and seizures. The last two are connected. I hope you find help for your problem.

My wife has ET. Propranolol and Primidone both slowed her down too much so all she wanted to do was sleep. I thought she should try gabapentin but when she used Lyrica (which is very similar to gabapentin) for another condition she again slowed down and put on weight. Xanax helps and by adjusting the dose she doesn't get overly tired.

Yes, I have essential tremor--shake from head to toe.  Neither propanolol(Inderal), nor mysoline(Primidone) helped me.  I take diazepam for doctor appts.  Rarely do I take any when I've no place to go.  It doesn't lessen my tremor, but it does keep it from increasing when I'm under good, bad, small, large, stress of any kind.

Mine started in head & hands around my age of 8-9.  Grew up trying to hide it.

I have a webpage of E T story poems.  Most meant to be humorous takes on E T experiences.
