Your dress create a positive climate of acceptance around you. You can package yourself for either success or failure.
In your working place, avoid: Low necklines, clinging cloths, see through garments, glitter and tight fits.
Wear clothes you feel good and confident in, it heightens your sense of self confidence and power, wherever you go.
Clothes make the man and woman if you want  to be successful, your wardrobe is always a good investment.
To look good, you don't have to be expensive but remember that quality pays.
Remember be yourself. Don't go with the crowd. Stand out. Wear what allows your personal charm charisma and beauty to show through.
Learn to keep your hair beautiful at all times. An un-kept hair shows that you are a disorganized person. Don't go with the hairstyle in vogue unless it suits your face and personality. Before you change your look, get some professional advice. Low cut hair makes some women look masculine. Always enhance your femininity.
Learn  to keep a regular appointment with your beautician for facial, pedicure and manicure. Your nails are details keep them neat.
Love and treat your body with  respect, keep it clean and healthy, exercise regularly, eat good foods that produce,  promote and sustain you in health and vitality. Invest in toiletries perfumes and fragrances that create a compelling presence everywhere you go.

I think we are supposed to concentrate more on what is inside rather than spend a fortune and loads of time and effort on trying to impress others.

If what is inside us is clean and rightous why would want to present a  shabby appearence to the world?
Poor packaging creates the expectation of a poor product contained therein.

Dressing to attract people or to make friends is vanity. God is more concerned about the person we are inside than how we look on the outside.

All through my teen years I was rejected by my peers because my clothes didn't suit them. I wore hand-me-downs and Salvation Army rejects. It was all my mother could afford for me with the cheap, stingy dad I had. He made good money but preferred to spend it on himself.

People who expect me to dress a certain way for them to be my friends aren't worth having as friends.

janine

You would not take a precious picture the Lord gave you and allow it to be dirty, or abused, or covered with some nasty rags.

You should not take the body, the person you are, a gift from God, and leave it dirty, or abuse it, or put nasty inferior rags on it.

A good-quality attractive modest outfit is like an attractive and appropriate frame for a picture.

EJ

My take:  Forget the fragrance, a clean body has a great fragrance of its own.  "Rags" are fine, if that's all you can afford, or are given, but do clean them when dirty, whenever possible.

Shoulders back, head held high......you're a child of GOD!   ::clappingoverhead::

OldDad

As to hygiene, sure we should keep clean - that's a health issue.  But as far as clothes, wear what you like and what makes you comfortable.

If the prophet had been judging the frame, one of David's brothers would have been king.

janine

Given how much and how often David messed up, I shudder to think what the brothers would have put God and the Kingdom through.

There is a standard... "the best you can do" is the standard I like.

As has been said, rags are fine if that's what you have.  It's nice to be as clean as you can, given your circumstances.  Anything above that is lagniappe, extra, the baker's 13th cookie.

Which we owe to God, that 13th cookie.  Not to somehow merit His favor, but to thank Him.

I take showers and keep myself clean. I wear clean clothes--the best that I can afford. Not all of us are able to buy fancy clothes in order to impress anyone, and, as I said, I don't believe God is impressed with how we dress but how we act, how we talk, the way we treat others, and if we are striving to live according to His word.

A man in a $5,000 suit and $1,000 shoes won't impress God if he is an ungodly man--even if he sings in the choir. However, a man who only has sweats to wear to church but strives to live as God intends will be noticed by God and blessed for his faithfulness. God loves a faithfil man or woman. It's quite possible to be poor but clean and godly in one's actions and words.

AMEN jon marc.Very well said.
The word is obsessed with clothes, fashion, designer things, looks, what we wear, etc etc. We are supposed to be different and are supposed to be drawing people to God and not to ourselves.

farouk

I agree with both points of view.

It's the inward that counts before God; faith and character.

My wife does remind me, however, if something I wear doesn't 'match', or if I look untidy.

(I don't wear my earring these days, mind...)

I bathe and wash my jeans once a month whether they are dirty or not.   ::smile::

PS: But my wife doesn't go out without 'putting her face on'.

What does she do--put it on the nightstand and leave it there until she goes out? LOL!

I have traded wearing make-up for putting a smile on my face...it works wonders!... ::nodding::

It may be just my imagination, or my age of 73, but I wonder if I am treated with friendliness/respect because I show my true looks without trying to cover my age with makeup, at least by younger people.   ::shrug::  But then, I'm not married--if I were, my husband might prefer I covered my wrinkles.   ::smile::

I think we do the best with what we have to work with and understand that we are all not alike in our views of looking good.  Meaning some women wear make up all the time and others never wear it.  That's their choice and some find natual looks more attractive.  Some do let their hair go grey others cover their hair that went grey.  Some dress their best always others are more jeans type.   Some have physical flaws while others are in top shape.  Regardless of what our extreriors may show or cover none of us are perfect and noone should show a superior attitude to others.

I wear make up, fix my hair and dress best for my inperfect body type everyday.

Gods Servant

I believe we should try to be our best in all areas.  My insides belong to God as does my outside.  The former though, is my key to everlasting salvation.

i dont see anything wrong making your self look good for your self estem or for your husband or your children .as long as it is in a descent way .not nothing loud or vogur.in modest appeareal make up to me is ok as long as it isnt put on wrong ,just light and natural .i think if it was wrong the  god will  let you know he will put it upon your heart if its wrong .thats is how i think . ::amen!::

Good observations!  Also, remember to use mouthwash!

This is nice a first glance, but it seems so superficial. Regular appointments for facials, pedicures, and manicures - my goodness. Even at a beauty school that can be pricey. And unless you happen to be in an appearance oriented job (TV anchor), does any of that really matter? Seeing someone that is that "done" doesn't impress me at all. It seems fake and a waste of money. A great wardrobe may be important in some jobs, but in many it doesn't matter.

If you are going to "invest in ....perfumes and fragrances", please wear them lightly if at all. Too many women think that if a little fragrance is good, a lot must be better. That is overpowering and in fact can be dangerous for people with allergies and/or asthma.

Check with your husband before you go this route. For some people, it is a big deal, so do it. For my dh and I, it would be extreme and impractical if I, as a country farmer/wife, got concerned about "enhancing my femininity". Thing is - many of us simply don't have the time or the lifestyle that makes a nice pedicure or feminine clothes realistic. When I was a teenager with unlimited time and money to "play" that worked.

Jon-Marc

My experience has been that some people will treat you like dirt under their feet no matter what you do, say, act, or how you dress. Some people are just plain mean; and I avoid such people.
