Moses leads Israel out of Egypt.  He is the only Judge.  He is the Law Bringer.  If someone has problems, then they come to Moses.  This task is too great for one man given the population.  Moses creates judges and laws.

King Henry VIII of England declares himself head of the state and the church.  He has absolute authority in all matters.  He is divorced from Catherine of Aragon when the Church would not allow him.  He is both Pope and King in effect.

In the US, there is a separation between Church and State.  Moses and King Henry both had complete authority in all matters.  The first Amendment to the Constitution separates these powers.  It implies, along with the 10th Amendment, that certain issues belong to the State, and certain issues belong to the Church.  It could be argued that any moral issue, as well as issues of welfare and education belong to the Church given history, and that the state has overreached its authority.  The US Government is like a bad neighbor.  The US Government is secular, secular meaning no religion, no religion meaning no values or moral relativity, therefore the US Government can pick and choose and define morality for itself.  As such, if you are the US Government's neighbor, and there are rocks showing the boundary line of your property, the US Government moves those rocks at night, and uses the full weight and force of the police and US Military to do so.

Jesus says the only acceptable reason for divorce is adulatory.  There has to be fault.  In the US there is no fault divorce.  Anyone can become divorced for any reason.

You are married in a Church by a Pastor or Priest.  What legitimate authority does the US Government or State Government have over your marriage or divorce?  Civil Court does not fall under the constitution.  The Constitution does not mention marriage or divorce.  In Civil Court you fall under the authority of one corruptible man.

What is best for someone's children?  It could be argued that what is best for someone's children is that both parents take a 1950's view on marriage and work it out and stay together. The secular US court system takes a view that the individual, being the parents, have rights in contrast to their minor children.  If those minor children felt that the divorce harmed them and their development 10 years later do the children have a right to a lawsuit?

God makes laws. His justice is perfect and there is reason behind it all.  The Kingdom of God is where you give your allegiance and trust to God and people in his Church who have proven to be of his Spirit.  To take your case to Godly authority rather than Wordly authority.  On authority and God's Kingdom: http://www.kingwatch.co.nz/Kingdom_of_God/authority.htm

My only thoughts on the matter of marriage is that if a couple does not seek God first in their lives, placing Him above their spouses and seeking Him in their marriage then why would it matter to any of these people what the bible says in regards to divorce? If they didn't have His council coming in, they certainly don't need it stepping out.

Given there is one God, and given original sin, and given he works in the world exactly like the Bible says he does...that is, he has a character and personality, and nothing new happens under the sun, then it matters greatly, even for those seeking a marriage or divorce without God.

A couple lives in a Christian country.  They go to a hotel or a library.  There is a Bible there.  They chose not to read it.  They have freedom of choice.  Nobodies fault but theirs.

Love is patient and kind. God's Love is eternal.

In muslim countries right now, many places, a couple can get a temporary marriage.  That is, they become marriage for a couple months so a man can have sexual rites to a woman, and then divorce because he does not love her and had no intentions of staying with her.  That is wicked.  Trial marriages or "relationships" in the west are the same thing.

Idolatry = Adulatory to God.  Man often erects false idols in his heart.  That can take the form of false ideologies where man is worshiping himself such as Feminism and Humanism.  God's Anger is slow.  It eventually leads to war, famine, and plague.

some children in abusive marriages would be far better off if the parents separate.
