This female pastor performed a same-sex marriage. I could not find if it were in a Methodist Church.

If it were in a Methodist Church she should not do that. Her punishment seems appropriate since the Methodist church does not allow it.

If it were not in a Methodist Church I do not care. I have nothing against Gay marriages. They have a hard enough time already in this world so I say leave them alone. Let them get married. Whatever. Peace. John

It's not just that a female pastor preformed a same sex marriage; it's that she, herself, is homosexual as well.

While I do not believe she should be kicked out of the church, we should not be allowing her to LEAD a church body.  The vote was something like 11-1 refusing to remove her from her position.  To me, that's a pretty clear sign that the Methodist church is headed in the wrong direction.  They are more worried about not making waves in the community than in following in the path of Christ. 

Would Jesus have been so worried about upsetting people that he didn't scold one of his disciples?  Heck, who didn't he upset while he was here?  Go read your bible again people!  He was sarcastic ("You have such a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God.") he was rude, telling people to shut up and listen, he was even violent (he didn't ask those pesky coin changers to leave the church.  He went outside, picked out a nice branch, and forced them out by beating the tar out of them.)  Our God is the God who created Mt. Everest, Lions, and asteroids which randomly rain down on earth.  He destroyed entire cities for turning their backs on him.  Why do we just ignore or pretend that it's OK to be gay and preach that being gay is ok?

The articles that I read it sounded like she was in charge of the trial. She refused to say what her mate and she did to enjoy each other. She said that she would refuse if she was ordered not to marry another gay couple.

I do not care if gay people are allowed to marry. It does bother me that any church or minister would do it. Since I am presently attending a UMC it also disturbs me that my tithes and gifts are in the hands of people like those who presided at her trial. To me I feel like I'm aiding and abetting the enemy.

Personally, I think that we have no right not to allow them to marry.  Just because they're sinning?  Don't we let adulterers and alcoholics get married?  Nowhere in the bible does it say that being gay is worse than any other sin.  It says the exact opposite thing actually.  It says that all sin is hated equally.

I'm not saying that our churches should open their doors to gay couples to have ceremonies there.  Nor should the church equate a sinful, homosexual union with a traditional marriage preformed in the church.  Just that legally, if a couple decide to join their lives together, they should enjoy the same LEGAL status as heterosexual couples.

Biblically, marriage is a couple coming to God and asking for His blessing on that union.  There is no way for a homosexual couple to have God's blessing on a sinful union.  That doesn't mean that they shouldn't have the legal right to power of attorney, right to inheritance, or being able to file taxes as a couple.

But then again, I'm a libertarian and think lots of strange things...

By the odds, at least one of His disciples was probably gay. The gospels mention no such scolding. I imagine that Gods Law mattered the most to Jesus. We can all speculate. Peace. JohnR

The bible also doesn't talk of him eating breakfast or what he did on his 16th birthday, but that doesn't mean those things didn't happen.  There are all sorts of stories in there about him rebuking them for lack of faith and anger.  Why would he let any other sin go unnoticed?

I strongly disagree with this statement..............there is NO Biblical evidence to support such a statement.  As far as God's law is concerned, His Written Word states that it (homosexulality) is an abmoination in His eyes.  That's pretty clear, and fairly SCALDING if not scolding.
