Took me a while, but I finally saw it. You can see it online free if you have Amazon Prime.
Well made movie. Edward Fudge will probably go down in history high in the list of those who have most influenced modern Christian doctrine. He was certainly not the first to hold his viewpoint, but he has explained it well and made it popular.
Edward Fudge's influence was and remains negligible.
It was a good movie inasmuch as one tends to cheer for the underdog, but in actual fact the man was treated as a heretic for all of his life. His assertions were never seriously considered to be valid. The post modern church today is supported by empty religious slogans and buzz words, not Biblical evidence. There is no room for an appreciation of what the Bible really says - by people who for the most part have never read the book cover to cover. Mr. Fudge went to his reward three years ago.
I suggest reading Edward Fudge's book -
THE FIRE THAT CONSUMES available through purchase on line. It's a book by book study of what God is telling us in His Word about the afterlife - mostly that there isn't one for SINNERS.
Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. - Ecclesiastes 3:19
The basic assertion throughout is that there is no such thing as hell. Neither is there a part of the human being that survives physical death. The ancient product of Egyptian and Babylonian myth was adopted by the early church and refined by the Vatican into a form of fear mongering that supports church membership rather than Biblical context.
The gospel is the good news that God desires to grant eternal life to those who accept Jesus Christ's death upon the cross. There is no eternal life at all for SINNERS. They just die. Hell is logically a form of eternal life albeit a painful one. The Bible and Mr. Edwards teaches that God kills. God does not torture as men are fond of doing.
The Second Death, spoken of in the book of Revelation, is absolute total spiritual destruction. Nothing remains of the SINNER who is ejected from the presence of God, not even ashes.
