The Coolest Christian Movie Ever ???

[Now I will have to see it...]

What was Christian about it? I thought I read somewhere that Will Smith was a Scientologist!

Presuming that you believe that the author of the hyperlinked article was full of hooey, you bring up an interesting question:

Must we judge the religious/political message of a movie by the beliefs/leanings of the major players, or should we only do so if they being obvious about it?

Or did you see some pro-Scientology aspects in the film that others haven't reported?

I do not know what article you are refering to. I saw the movie and I did not find anything in it that would clarify it as a Christian movie.  A lot of movies have had prayer in them, but that does not make them Christian.

Maybe you have some information that I don't?  That is the reason why I asked "What makes It a Christian Movie"?

And re: Will Smith being a Scientologist -- I don't know that is so.  It may be true by now, though I hope not.  I know he was listening to some celebrity friends of his who are, and commenting not unfavorably on what they had to say.

That still doesn't make him one of the gang.

But, getting back to the linked article, did the author have a point?

BTW, my son told me he had heard that there was two endings to the story (whether the Smith character lived or died), so that the ending in the theatrical release may not be the same that was shown in the DVD.

It would seem that that would be a factor as to the writer's contention that this was some kind of allegory. ::shrug::

Excuse me for not going to the link yet, but I just rented the movie today, and will wait until I watch it to go to the link.

As to the Scientologist thing, I just heard a couple of days ago that this was still just speculation. (btw, who were those celeb friends--some guy named Tim Cruz or something?)

Just watched it.  I liked the bit about it being so quiet you can hear God's plan, or however it went.  I'll read the link now.

Okay, I read the article.  Even though I tend to think most things on that site are full of hooey, I agreed.  I thought there were more indications of a Christian subtext than he mentioned, even, beginning with an early shot of a poster that says something like "God Still Loves Us" on the abandoned city street.

We bought the video and watched both endings, I think the ending with him living leaves it open to have # 2 movie. But I thought in order to be a legend you had to die, maybe not.

I did not like it when he said there was no God, but at the end when he shoved the woman in the hole..He said he was listening to God.. So it led me to believe that he did believe there was a God and he was listening to Him.

There was a time in the movie where the woman mentioned God and Will Smith blew up saying there was no God, yelling at her. This was when the monsters were everywhere and he had to live in a monster-ridden world. Other then that, there were some pro-God moments such as the ones already posted.

I just finished it. I haven't seen the alternate ending, though DH told me about it. I think I prefer the original ending.

I thought it was a well-done movie. It reminded me somewhat of Castaway, in that Will Smith carried almost the entire movie by himself. His acting was great.

The God themes were interesting, too.

Overall - good movie, but not something I want to watch again. I'm going to be depressed all night long as it is, anyway.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but recently watched a DVD of the original screen adaptation, starring Vincent Price, called The Last Man on Earth.

In the DVD it has an interview with the author, seemingly made just before the making of the latest, Will Smith, version, and he emphasized that there were quite a few delays in producing the first, because it was not the kind of movie Hollywood likes to make (the 1964 version was made in Italy.)

However, from what I have read elsewhere, all of the three versions (which were written by the author) seem to have copped out in regard to the central theme of the novel, which is, who is the "monster" and who is the "victim" is a matter of perspective.

I will try to get time to find and read the book, and compare it with the films to see if this is true.

There was two other movies about the same thing.
1. Last man Alive. Staring Vincent Price
2. The Omega Man. Starring Charlton Heston. ( Which I believe was the best.)

As far as I am Legend, the should have let his dog kill him and ended it.
The dog was a much better actor then Will Smith was.
